I did one last week....
Ya I had to do some ramp extensions with some home depot 8x2 cause the bumper will not clear the ramp... you might be able to see it in the pic behind the metal ramp Also got an adapter to be able to remove the oil filter http://www.pepboys.com/product/detai...ilter_wrenches |

just make sure if your car is in a down hill you put the ramps in the opposite way... so that the lift from the front ramps compensate a bit with the down hill so it's as level as posible...
my garage is downhill towards the rear of the car and when i lifted the front was even more pronounced so then when there is very little oil left it will start moving towards the rear of the oil pan and dripping some oil into the cloth cover of the undercarriage... |

Did first oil change on 235. Unfortunately I could not get car onto Petersen Utra-Ramps with extension without rubbing the flexi-flap in front of the front tires. Resorted to my 3.5 ton Arcan garage jack (Costco) and a ReverseLogic pad (lifting point) tool.
I lifted at the drivers side front jack-point and was able to get enough height to work the flap door and drain plug. I was also able to lower the car to 'level' while draining to get a good drain. The one tool I purchased for the job that was indispensable the Form-A-Funnel [small size (green object in picture)] that routed the draining oil over the flap door into a basin. The factory drain plug gasket was silver and blended onto the drain plug bolt - so be sure to pry that off. The OEM filter kit came with a copper drain plug. And the actual factory filter was installed with the writing on the filter facing upward into the plastic filter cap. I purchased a OEM filter socket made in Switzerland. Used a 27mm socket to turn the filter cap. I put in around 6.6 quarts ( let drain for about thirty-minutes ) and after a short 1.8 mile drive car showed oil at 'MAX' level with a 'Oil O.K.' reading. And when under the car I placed a floor jack and spare tire strategically though not touching anything and I used two wheel chocks on the passenger side front & rear. The next time I do a thirty-minute drive I will chk oil level - the system needs that thirty minute drive for the iDrive oil level reading to be accurate/stated in manual. From my invoice :Part # 83300493936* Genuine BMW N52/54/55 Oil Filter Cap Removal Wrench But I'll chk the actual part when I get home. Some post mentioned how some cheaper oil filter sockets had deformed over time making use difficult, so decided to go with the OEM. |

Great thanks for the confirm
So these are the same for all N52/N54/N55 engine I get the filters from Mann HU816x (Mann is actually the oem supplier for these filters) and they can be found at around $8-9 (usd) The filter wrench can be found on amazon for $18 (AST V410) Oil (mobil 1 0w-40 european formula) can be found at Walmart for $23 (5 qt) jug As for ramps, i got myself some race ramps but if you have clearance issues, use some 4x2 to give you that extra 2"

it's $6 instead of $28 it's made of metal so no issues wearing off I rather use BMW oil so it's the same oil they use for the free oil changes.... http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-...-oilchgkit6327 but I don't really think using Mobil 1 would make any harm...but I rather just use the exact same brand... |

M1 0w-40 is LL01 approve
Used it 9 years on the e90 $6 is cheap metal vs aluminum and you have to add shipping no? Those wrench might not apply even pressure when you torque it...result in premature oil filter housing gasket wear. Just my 2 cents But whatever works
