Do you guys know if there's a preset oil change schedule or can I go early for the first one.

you check the "vehicle status" on iDrive and it will tell you when you need it

I was told by my tuner that it's best to change the oil more frequently than the BMW schedule allows and that, especially for owned, rather than leased, cars, it's worth the expense. So I had the tuner shop do an oil and filter change at 1000 miles to flush any bits and pieces thrown by the new, broken-in engine and will bring it there to do another every 5k miles. I will only bring it to the dealership for oil changes when scheduled by BMW.

thats the way to do it. if BMW calls for 12-14000 km change or once per year, i would do it every 6-7k. One self paid and the other with dealer.

Interesting discussion. So many theories on when an oil change should be done.

I'm of the opinion that synthetic oils need to be change once a year or every 10,000 miles, which ever comes first. I've done this for my last three BMWs and ran them for 100,000 miles each with no engine problems.

well this turned to a different question....

BMW will only change it whenever idrive says...
now, I would probably change on your own in between around 7000 miles or 5000 if you track it....

Unless you're tracking the car, I trust the engineers that wrote the main. sched. That is unless they engineered it to blow up the moment the warranty is up

Yeah, lifetime lube. That just means they change the oil by replacing the aluminum component containing it. That's bad enough when it's the diff or transmission, no way that's a good idea with an engine.

As a wise person once told me, lube is cheap. Metal isn't.

I saw the viral videos of the Ford Escape taxi engine at 500k miles; taxi mechanic does oil change every 3 weeks. Clean as a whistle!

1 year or when iDrive says it is needed. On my 2010 we changed at 12 mos and about 10k miles and then again at 17k when onboard system indicated.

I believe my '08 335 was a laughable 16k miles, and many did the own half way in between. When did BMW reduce the USA mileage?
