Hi Steve I tried everything and I'm sure my 2017 BMW240I X-Drive does not have the digital speedo or auto unlock, I even went so far as to ask the dealership and this model does not have the auto unlock for some reason. Yes it is in the manual and yes most models have it but the M240I X-Drive in Canada at least does not, the option is just not there when you scroll through the door lock menu. My gauge cluster only has the smallish screen near the bottom and when I scroll through the "BC" menu the current speed is not an option.

As a Canadian with a 2017 240 xDrive I expect we have the same configurations.

I just turn off auto-lock in the driver settings. Car doesn't lock the doors as I drive off, no need to unlock. No way to get the car to turn completely off on a single press from the iDrive. It simply times out if you walk away and don't lock the car, and of course you've discovered it turns off when you do lock the car.

AFAIK there is no digital speedo option for the centre gauge cluster. You can put up the sports display on the 8" screen - that's the rendering of horsepower and torque "analog" gauges.

Yes maybe I should just turn off the auto lock, I don't have any small kids in the car thanks. With the bimmercode and a code device you can bring up the speedo in the middle cluster so I'm going to give that a try.

It might have been a new feature added on the '18 refresh?

Here's a pic of the digital speedo (see low-center position)...

Yes definitely updated, probably because people like me wanted a digital speedo! Either way I'll code it in when I get my Kiwi 3.

Same here with my USB drive, doesn't have the shuffle or even playlist option. I'm currently using an iPod which I leave connected all the time and that does give me the shuffle & playlist options. My 2019 doesn't even come with a CD player.

Your car is a 14/15? The panic button and chirp after locking was added in 2016 and on.
Not entirely true. My 2015 M235i has the panic and audible chirp. I think the alarm was an option.

I hate, despise, loathe the back-up camera on my 240i and find it distracting at best and destructive at worse. Having driven several million miles in my life, largely without issue, to find even simple parking with no cars near me has been a nightmare. Am I the only one?

Perhaps you could share what is the actual issue which causes your disdain? Do you feel the camera quality and resulting image are poor? FWIW, I have the diametrical opinion and find it works quite well, so I am surprised by your post.

Thanks for jumping in Sportstick. Given how few complaints I've seen, I can well imagine I'm in the minority. The entire concept of the camera is new to me--having only experienced on a limited basis in my GF's Accord. The BMW imaging is high quality, but I find the green and red lines disorienting and do not direct the car to where it needs to go. I'm a little dyslexic, so maybe some things things don't line up as they actually are.

And I will make the painful confession that I have had multiple curb rash episodes on the rear right wheel, something that's never happened to me prior through two previous BMW's. Would there be a benefit to simply disconnecting the camera?

No, I suggest not. The real motivation for the FMVSS mandate for the camera in all new vehicles is the number of small children, often in driveways, who may not be in the line of sight. The statistics are distressing and running over your own child/grandchild when backing up is a devastating event, and it may only happen once after decades of driving. Everyone says it will never happen to them, especially those unfortunate souls to whom it eventually happened. The assistance for parking is a secondary benefit or you can look away, of course, in a parking lot/structure/street parking, if it disorients you. I find the lines are actually very predictive of the path with that steering angle.

There's no stronger argument to be made and appreciate you reminding me. I still hate it but will just need to figure out how to do better.

Perhaps there's something wrong with your camera / image processing software. I find the curved lines predict within +/- 2 inches where the car will track if I freeze the wheel. Most of that uncertainty comes from the width of the lines - the system might be even more accurate than that.

The camera itself is pretty crappy. It doesn't work very well at night compared to the one in our RAV4, and the RAV handles patches of shade in bright sunlight a lot better too.

My only gripe is that I can't change the instant fuel economy into anything actually useful like oil or water temperature.

If you find the lines distracting, you can turn them off in iDrive. You can also adjust camera brightness. These options are available when the camera image is displayed.

Yeah, but that orange-amber color at night!! I'd give up a bigger digital speedometer display for that color in the dark.

If you don't like the feature, don't look at the screen!
Honestly, though, it does take a little time to get used to the red and green lines. You have to steer the car so that the green lines are where you want them to be with respect to the kerb/curb. Once you get the hang of that, all your rashes will be gone!
