ASD Disabled WOW
I know a lot of people ask how much does ASD affect the cabin noise? A lot.
I bought the Technic PNP harness and installed it this morning. Install took about 45 minutes in total. Instead of hearing that horrible drone noise from ASD, you hear the sweet inline 6 and your exhaust note. On the highway no need to blast the radio over the ASD. The radio is crisper sounding as well. Spend the $55 and hear what your car is supposed to sound like!

I'm guessing the fake exhaust note

Bruce - it's Active Sound Design, which is fake noise pumped into the speakers. All M series cars have it and most don't like it. I finally got around to disabling it.

Agreed, I prefer it with no ASD, even if it's a bit on the quiet side. The highway drone was killer for me.
For those that don't know, you can pop your radio fuse out to disable ASD (and the radio) temporarily, if you just want to hear what it sounds like. |

Does it really drone that much? Does it try to replicate noise from the exhaust or is it just a sound clip already in the hardware

Arhoads- it's tries to replicate your exhaust time based on RPM, inside the cabin. If you have a stock car you might want to keep it for the sporty sound.

I agree that turning asd off is a good thing. I would suggest your time and money are better off spent on BimmerCode so you can turn ASD off and do a whole lot more.

True this. For the $45 for the harness you could just buy an adapter and Bimmercode and have so many more options to play with.

For others reading this, it's not an issue. I have BM3 and bimmercode. It's fine.

What does this harness do apart from deleting ASD? Does it aid the real engine sound to be heard? Or harness install simply = ASD coded off?
If so, I have an unpopular opinion that I actually prefer it with ASD . |

Avex- the harness just deletes ASD, doesn't aid in anything else. Except hearing the car, best example on my car with my set up; driving on the highway I couldn't hear my tires with the radio off (not that you want to) with ASD on, disabling ASD I know hear my tires on the highway.

Your talking about your radio volume? Decreased with the harness hooked up?

Lol hwn - dono you can only get rid of ASD with the harness or bimmercode, can't unplug anything.
One thing to note disabling ASD is a great idea but I did notice the volume on the stereo did go down. But well worth doing overall.
