Auto-retracting mirrors
Can the 218d be set to automatically retract the mirrors upon locking? I can’t find it in iDrive or the online manual, so I’m not hopeful.

Found my own answer on YouTube. The first clip was the BMW Genius How-To. It showed a setting under My Vehicle/Doors. I think I looked there before and found nothing.
The second clip showed how holding the lock button down rather than simply pressing it will retract the mirrors. The guy said BMW doesn’t code it in bc in freezing weather the mirrors could ice up and be damaged. |

Comment: I guess that means Japanese cars are coded like European cars. I can retract mine either by holding down the remote’s logo or leaving my finger on the locking sensor. Q1: Can that coding be done using an OBD tool? Specifically the Foxwell NT530 I have on the way? Q2: My friend here in Japan just bought a BMW for his wife. Not sure of the model, just that it’s a 4-door. Think it’s a M series. At any rate, his mirrors (apparently) retract on standard locking. Can this also be coded using OBD? |

Hi mate
1.All BMW cars no matter where can be coded . 2.M series - only ref's to the trim ie- the aesthetics of any given model.I would wager that the option for closing was coded in for him. I'm afraid that your Foxwell NT530 OBD is only a gateway into the car which as far as I recall does diagnostic readings/values. The actual coding would be under the cars ECU- FEM ( Front Electronic Module) under Convenient Closing . Which means 2 things - place your finger on the lock for a sec and the mirrors will fold in as well as when you lock from your remote. ps forgot to mention the time in which youhave to leave your finger there in order for the wing mirrors to fold can also be coded in values of 0.5 seconds/ 1 second /1.5 seconds and more recently - No delay |

Out of curiosity, what OBD tool would you recommend that can also code and at what cost? Ih, and just saw the chat thing. Nope. I use LINE most of the time. Cheesy, but gets the job done. |
