Black or Silver (Front Grill)

Hi everyone!

I am new to this forum and also to the BMW brand as well!
Recently bought a used BMW 2 series F22 - 2015.

While I really love the car, every time I walk towards it i have the same thought in my mind - should I leave the silver front grill as it is or change to black.

So want to hear your thoughts - do you think a black front grill would look good on this car? The front bumper also has some silver as well.

Thanks!

Gloss black grills are everyone's obligatory first mod lol.

Yours is one of the few where I would say the silver / chrome looks better. It matches the bumper surrounds and looks well put together. If you did the same around the bumper, I'd vote go black.

I think the black is aggressive and the silver is more classic. Different tastes. As has been said, seems like the first mod most do

@dpat3344 Are you any good with Photoshop? I was pondering the same change and Photoshop'd the faux chrome with black and decided it didn't quite work with my estoril blue body colour.

I also tried the grille surround and inlet vanes in body colour too. which I though worked rather better ...

In the end, inertia got the better of me and I didn't bother with either. But if anything, I'd body-colour the inlet vanes first, as I think anything is better than the primer-like grey of the originals. If you do decide to remove the grille, give serious consideration to wrapping or spraying the radiator cross-struts (in between the grille and the radiator). Although, perhaps in body colour, rather than yellow ...

The above is a Photoshop I did for a Euro 1 Series hatch owner who was thinking about wrapping the struts and intake surrounds in yellow. For obvious reasons, he decided it wasn't really an improvement. And surely the very first retro-fit for most owners is to replace the mirror covers with carbon fibre or gloss black ...

That’s a great idea!
I’m actually ok in photoshop and can do basic editing.
It’s just a little harder to get a sense from a picture imo.

I agree with makrop completely. Introducing a 3rd color on the front would be too much.

I know I'm on an island with this opinion, but I like the way the grill looks stock -- just my opinion but the all black grill just looks cheap.

I too agree with Makrop on this one as OP's car does not have the M package front fascia and the black grills would not look good with the silver that's on the rest of the front fascia. Now, if OP were to change all of that silver to black, that's another story.

I personally stuck with chrome M2 style grilles for my color. Since like yours the chrome/silver seemed to give it a nice contrast.

I'd vote for chrome. It goes with the rest of the trim and the overall look - classy and understated, but not 'boy-racer'. Black grills would look out of place to me, like an afterthought. Some color schemes it looks great, but others it just makes the grills disappear or looks very generic.

I agree with makrop. Unless you are going to change the bumper accents to black as well, stick with the silver grill.

IMO, I do think changing it all to black would look better.

Hi,

Chrome for my taste. And contrast with the color of the car...

If you do black get the lower intake trim in black too. Otherwise a chrome surround with black slats could also look good. I find the chrome slats make it look like someone who has grills for their teeth

For the silver M sport 228i I like the chrome surround. Changing out the cerium on my X3 M40i though.
