Also the black powerflex bushings I went with do increase NVH noticeably.

I did just the fixed upper thrust black/90 Powerflex on 235i, and very little NVH (only change to front). In fact most posters here's response and why I went with them. Surprised you are getting that response.

You feel a bit more of road, almost no noise, and almost no vibration.

Just to clarify...if you prefer driving the M240, you might still choose the 4 Series because of paint?

Are you familar that you could wrap any 2 Series with a cognac interior to look just like that?

Right?? Ugh, makes my heart skip a beat.

And thanks, I hadn't realized that was with MPPSK. Dying to do this test drive and very much appreciate everyone's 2 cents.

And listen Sportstick, that color combo just does something to me, ok?? And that + the exhaust + the better sound system + plenty of power = a car I could be VERY happy to own, as long as a test drive doesn't reveal it to be absolute utter shit, which, it's a BMW 4 series, so..

I do realize you can build an M240 this way but 2 things:

1. I do NOT have the money to buy new
2. I do nooooot have the money.
3. I'm very picky and hate the digital instrument cluster, so it's 2017 M240i for me or bust. (They can pry orange clusters from my dead M-sport-wheel-gripping hands!) And the "Long Beach blue" (as its called on 240s) and cognac colors just don't exist for the 2017 M240. I'd only get a Black 2017 M240 with red interior.

Ok that's like 3.5 things, sorry

1. i'd take the M240i over the 440i because it's smaller!
2. and i don't know why anybody would describe the steering as rubbish
3. you will change your mind on the HK system if you try it

i traded my M4 for an M2C

I understand that we all yearn for the old hydraulic steering, but neither of these vehicles has it, so QUIT YOUR WHINING!! The steering is irrelevant.
The major difference between the vehicles is the size. The 4 is yuuge, as we say in New York, with almost no increase in interior room.
As for the stereo, my father-in-law, rest his soul, used to remind me that, if you want to listen to music seriously, you should not do so in your car. That said, any reputable car stereo shop can fix it all big time for under $1000.

vampire81 I hear that. If we're taking Ms there's no chance I'd cop the M4. M2C ALL FUDGIN DAY

I think another thing pushing me in the direction of the 4, for now, is the fact that I plan to move to LA in the next year, so aside from traffic jams, highway driving will be the majority of my future driving. Though I do daydream about whipping the 240 through the windy country roads I'm currently surrounded by for the next few months 😌

So, long-term, I might just be alright with a big powerful 4 for my highway bully. I know the M240's no slouch in this regard either, but I think the overall package of the 4 maybe more my fit. Perhaps one day I can have an M2C for fun, but right now, I can only afford 1 nice car to fit all my needs for the next 5 or so years and I'm thinking a snapper rocks blue 440 with MPPSK might just fit the bill with minimal work 🤤...now I just have to wait to find one...

It is said to screw up the sound stage and muddle things. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I did eliminate mine and coded out the engine noise and it vastly improved things.

Oh thanks for that link. Definitely going to code out the engine noise when mine arrives and I’ll try it with and without the center speaker.

Is the engine noise piped into every F22?

I've assumed that it isn't into mine; if it is, I haven't noticed it, and so it's just that good, right?

As far as I know, yes it is.

To be honest, I didn't notice it either......until it was gone.

Thank you for your input.

I've been around a fair amount of loud noise – much of it before the cumulative effect of loud sounds was understood by the public – and my hearing isn't in good shape. I stepped out of an audiologist's booth in 2003 to see an array of hearing aid material spread out before me. I'd heard it before, in 1987. No thanks – not yet, anyway.

The hearing loss exhibited in those tests was high-frequencies. I doubt that's what BMW is pumping into our cabins.

If I had to guess, I'd say that my fairly well sound-deadened car has a bit of my mid-80s M635CSi being pumped into it. I like the sound, and even more, the idea – a lot.

Go for the 2er. The shorter wheelbase gives the car a more agile and engaging feel. As for interior, the F3X isn't much of an upgrade, you get some extra trim here and there, but both are pretty much filled with a mix of leather and cheap plastic. There isn't really much reason to go for the 4er unless you need a bigger car and at that point just get a sedan.

As for the Straightpipes, seriously, I wouldn't take their reviews that much to heart to sway your decisions, they are just OK reviewers, when it comes to cars, they review screen first, exhaust second, then for maybe one minute they'll actually talk about the handling. They just seriously annoy me. Throttle House are the much better reviewers, especially considering the host Thomas is an owner of multiple different BMW's (E46 M3, E46 Track Car, etc.). As for steering, they are both pretty bad in my opinion, its the same rack with pretty similar tuning, you won't notice much difference and they are both numb. BMW's EPS is just some of the worst in the industry, even on my M2 its numb, its just something you will have to adjust too, no new car (except maybe a Giulia or Porsche) will come close to your E92.

And for your decision, like everyone else has said, just test drive the car. People in the 2er forums will tell you to get a 2er, in the 4er forums they'll tell you to get a 4er, only you can make a decision, not the internet.

I own a 2'er but am looking at the 4 for the interior. I like the smaller size of the 2, but the 4, to me, isn't that much bigger. Performance difference between the two cars isn't going to be huge on the street. Interior is a big upgrade w/ the 4 IMO, and since that is where I am when driving, I think the 4 makes sense.

I like Snapper Rock w/ Beige interior. (I have Estroil w/ black now).

Again, it comes down to a personal choice. Everyone will justify their reasons for their choice. I wouldn't make my decision based on that. No matter what you do, there will always be a constituency that will say you make the wrong choice.

I don't see the upgrade with the 4er's interior. The F3X is pretty cheap even when loaded up, you may get some more trim on the dash but as a whole its a pretty mediocre interior imo, same with the G20, the only good thing is you can get merino leather but I have yet to find a dealer that has spec'd the car with one.

The only way you can figure what you will feel about the steering is by trying it out.

My 2 cents:

I have a 2020 M240i Coupe RWD with staggered Pilot Super Sports. Before this car I had a 2013 128i Coupe (E82). E82s had the widely acclaimed hydraulic power steering.

My M240i's electric power steering feels different, but I like it, and do not have any problem with it. I have driven a few F30s , mostly service loaners when I had my 128i, and didn't like the steering in any of them. They felt soulless. That doesn't happen with my M240i.

There is no dead spot (or an inch of play) on my M240i. In fact, the first time I drove it I thought whether it was a bit too responsive at highway speeds.

The Michelin PSS tires certainly play a role in making the steering so responsive. I wonder what tires were mounted on the cars that people who complain about the dead spot drove, and also whether RWD and xDrive have different steering feel. (The car reviewed by TheStraightPipes was certainly RWD because it was a manual.)

Our 2020 RWD M240i vert has no dead spot in
the center of the steering with square 225/40r18
PS4Ss. Less responsive but no dead spot on
215/50r17 x-ice3s in the winter either.

There is a huge difference in steering feel when running my 225/40r18 winter performance tires and my 245/35r18 MP4S tires. The steering feels way more connected and direct with summer tires and it should be no surprise. The referenced YT video is pointless as they were running winter tires. Everything feels like muted crap with those types of tires.

I did not fully appreciate what it means to eliminate the on-center dead zone until I did the LCA swap. Now that I do, I like it this way much better...much quicker response with slight movement off center.

I too, used to be concerned over the electric power steering feel and loss of the "old" hydraulic steering. After a year and a half of ownership, I can honestly say, I don't care anymore. I do not even notice it. Is there a difference? sure. I think it is overstated, and the internet keeps these types of things alive!

I vote you get the 2'er. Love mine! I drive lots of highway every day. It is fine and will rip thru LA traffic or cruise thru LA traffic. Don't over think it. Paralysis by analysis.
