Hey man, thanks for sharing, I am encountering similar rattle and sound from the middle armrest, though not as bad as yours.
You mentioned that it was due to the hand brake cable rubbing on the drive shaft. For $600, the quote seems a bit excessive, the dealer tell you exactly was required to perform the fix? And how long did it take to rectify this? Last edited by Kodax; 12-05-2019 at 10:56 AM.. |

Its like 2.5-3 hours in labor. Labor rate for my local dealer is $200/hr. I didn't want to mess with the fuel tank so i bit the bullet.

It's a b1t€h. If you're handy you can try finding the spot where the cable is hitting the driveshaft and secure it down

Brought our 2016 428i GC in for her last service under warranty and the tech recommended to have the handbrake cable clip replaced before warranty ran out. He also said the black front fascia air intakes were turning color to purple and to have those replaced as well under warranty. Apparently he's seen enough of these two things to be aware of the issues.

I had the exact same issue. But sounded a little different, more like a broken rear suspension, as the broken clip was further rear near the axle, and cable rubbed against the transmission shaft.
It ended up being a very cheap fix that didn't cost anywhere near OP's dealer quote. Sorry. |

Take a look at this and see if this might be your issue.
The plastic holding the brake line broke and the brake line grind against the drive shaft during hard acceleration. Dealer quote is expensive because they have to drop the fuel tank to access the clips. I just get under and zip tie both side line so they dont drop and grind the brake line. |
