Because some drivers choose EBC pads, I thought they might find this EBC compound chart useful:

My car has about 27K street miles on it and I'm easy on brakes, so the OE pads are hardly worn at all. But, I'm tired of the dust and want to limit wear on the rotors. So, I'm considering trying an aftermarket pad.

First, I have a question regarding the OE rotors: Assuming they are not at/near minimum thickness, can/should they be machined before I replace pads? In the past, on one piece cast iron rotors I would think the answer to this question would be yes, but on these, I'm not sure.

Second, I'm looking for a pad that meets the following requirements and welcome suggestions/recommendations on brand/compound (ceramic?):

• Spirited street driving, no track duty
• Performance comparable to OE pad
• Quality / dependability comparable to OE pad
• Competitively priced
• Low dust
• Low noise
• Low rotor wear

Stoptech ceramics are low dust and oem comparable

Are you referring to the StopTech Street or Sport pads?

Ferodo ds2500 if you want a bit more than OE. Dust about same, low to no noise. I'm also switching to either Motul 660 or Redline 600 fluid.

Always replace or machine your rotors for a new set of pads. Measure the thickness to make sure you have material to machine off.

309 or the Sport pads is likely what you want the 308 and 305 are OE like but not any better than OE.

It is becoming our number one seller. Fits all F2x F3X & F8x with the Brembo Sport caliper.

I don't know if its a thing to try used brake pads...
But I'm selling my PFC 08's for $100. I paid nearly $500 for them so it seems weird to just toss them after a couple of track days. But I sold the car, so they're no good to me.
Anyway, if anybody wants to try them on the cheap, check my ad in the Members Classified section.
They have a least 10mm of pad left, though the fronts are showing some cracks. I don't know if that's a problem.
I thought they were awesome; I had to recalibrate my braking points. They never faded, though they squeak in everyday use.

We are at 66k miles on our '16 M235 and will need new brakes soon (goes to show you how easy the car has been driven).

I'm liking what I've read on this thread regarding the Akebono Euro Ceramic pads, but Rock Auto's price is SO much cheaper than everyone else ($135 delivered front and rear) I'm wondering if they can possibly be the same brake pads.

Advance Auto's price is $283, and FCP Euro is $211.

Can there possibly be that big a difference in price???

Yes. Rock Auto pricing is quite good. I got my Brembo ceramic from them for a similar price.

Power Stop Track Day pads model numbers PST-1609 for the fronts, and PST-1656 for the rears, purchased on Amazon. Used the EBC yellows for the first 2 track days at Thunderhill, didn't like them. Stopped ok, acceptable noise, but didn't last for squat. They were done after two relatively easy track days. Put on the PST's for a weekend at Buttonwillow in March, and better braking performance, noisier (expected), but way longer lasting. I put the track specific pads on a few days ahead of the HPDE event and remove them as soon as possible afterwards, so don't run them for long periods on the street.

I wouldn't consider them daily use pads, but they handle HPDE's with no problems at all. I run ATE fluid, currently with stock brake lines. No fade issues.

Another great street pad that most people don't even know about is the Porterfield R4S. It is not dustless but outperforms the OEM pads on the street. Slightly more brake torque and can handle higher temps.

I need some help here. I just read the whole 15 pages, and some other threads. But I am still confused. I don't take my car to track, pretty much only for street use. I'm looking for something that bites a little more than the stock pads. I don't care about dust, but something w/o noise while approaching the stops signs would be great. So far, some of the most recommended pads I've seen are:

Stoptech Sport
EBC Redstuff
Porterfield R4-S
Brembo Ceramic
Akebono Ceramic

Which one is the one for me? Requirements:
1- No noise
2- More bite than stock
3- Don't care dust

In same situation, but do occ. light track fun (closer to spirted street driving lol) and few folks I know run Ferodo ds2500. Dust same, I've heard no, or very little noise, better bite.

Stoptech seems a bit better but I've heard folks say the Brembo are just as good. I looked into Porterfield R4-S and seem nice jump in performance, but noise can be an issue (deal breaker for me)

But yes everyone seems to have a different preference.

2018 230i with factory sliders. Factory pads were very low dust and great performance. I switched to the M Performance brakes and they came with the M performance pads. Excellent performance, very high dust. I switched to Brembo ceramics for M Performance brakes and the performance for every day use is as good or better than the factory M Performance brakes. The dust is lower but not what I would consider low dust.

None of the pads described above were noisy.
