17 inch wheels on M Sport Brakes
So im having an issue hooking and putting down power 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear.
I have an m sport brake kit on my car but I was planning on trying to put a 17 inch rim in the back to accommodate more sidewall. Would 17 inch wheels clear the rear brakes that are 345mm? From what ive been reading the rear brakes are smaller than the front which are 370mm but please correct me if im wrong. My intention is to put a 17x8 wheel in the rear and cover it in 255/45/17 or 255/50/17 so I can grip better. If anyone has any experience with this than your response is greatly appreciated! Thank you! |

Front brakes are 340mm diameter on M-Sport brakes on 2-series (370mm on 3 and 4 series are available, but typically require a 19” wheel with some 18” fitting). Many 17” wheels will fit, but the barrel and face need to be the right shape to clear the brakes. Tirerack and other online sellers should be able to guarantee to provide a wheel that will clear the brakes.
For the rear 255/40-17 would be 1% larger than the OEM 245/35-18, 255/45-17 at 5% larger will probably fit if the front tyres are also a similar diameter to avoid wheel speed sensor problems for ABS and stability control purpose, but 255/50-17 will likely cause problems at 9% larger than the OEM size. 255/40-17 would require a minimum 8.5” wheel width to be a tyre manufacturer recommended fit.
