Finally got to see this in person today, and it is just as ugly as everyone feared.

Looks like a cheap Kia, not a performance BMW.

I think we may be looking at this the wrong way guys. Yes, BMW probably pulled a dick move by naming this Kia replica an "M235I" to possibly increase sales to unsuspecting buyers. Now, stay with me here, this could actually be a good thing for us early build owners. It may actually add some rareness to having the "original" m235i. As time goes on, owning the 235 that only had 2 doors, 3.0 turbo 6 , & RWD/xdrive could become more sought after, since it is no longer produced?

In my point of view, they can smear the name all they want but owning a well-built car, that was only produced for a few model years, could be worth hanging on to.

Don't mind my rambling and pardon if it makes no sense. I see it as now you own something with a limited configuration build. Be proud of your car and just remember none of these new m235i's will have what you have.

I often wonder how all those folks who have won a real Nobel prize feel about the Nobel 'memorial' prize in economics. Kind of like owning a real M235 and seeing the new 'coupe'?
Or what about the people who bought a real Chevrolet Impala in 1957, a nameplate that was continuously downgraded throughout its decades-long lifetime. Or do they still make a car with that name?
The list goes on. Its called marketing. Get over it.

I don't even like the name M235i at all, I miss the days when cars had names and no letters/numbers lol.

As someone who is currently shopping for the REAL 2 series, it is a pain in my ass. I have had more that one salesman who did not have an M240xi coupe to offer me instead recommend that I consider one of their "M235s"... Many of them legitimately have no idea it is a totally different car (or that it's FWD based). Of course, I can hardly blame them - it defies logic that BMW would add a completely different set of cars to an existing series, such that "2 series" can now mean all kinds of stuff. It is also annoying that on dealer websites, Autotrader, etc, I have to wade through these/add filters to get past totally unrelated cars.

To be fair to the car itself, I did end up driving one, and it was much better than I expected. But boy are they ugly. Too ugly for me to consider for more than 10 seconds. (Despite one salesman's attempts to attract me to it because the tail end "looks just like the 8 series".) It looks like a bug. I prefer a car that makes me smile when I walk up to it.
