I think I found the best wheel brush
well I didn't do any testing or anything - but I purchased it on the recommendation from Obsessed Garage (I purchased it in Canada through Auto Obsessed) its the EZ Detail or Speedmaster wheel brush - it takes practice to stay clean while using it, but it does the best job for any single tool. Especially for the top and behind the caliper, and it will clean that inner lip where everything accumulates. No more wheel woolies or cleaning the lip by hand with a cloth

Pull out slow. LOL. It is one of the best wheel brushes on the planet. Make sure you wear some shades because the last thing you need is dirty wheel cleaner chemicals in your eye.

Been using the EZ- detail brush for years it works great but the splash back is bad sometimes. Try wheel woolies you won't get dirty at all and they also work just as well or better. I have the set of 3 a large, medium and small.

I'm using a set of Griot woolies similar to the ones DannyM235 listed. I also have a brush like the one vancitymike posted.
I greatly prefer the woolies. The brush splatters everything all over the place. The small woolies are also way better at getting in between the caliper and the wheel rim, and for poking at the recesses of the caliper itself. The larger woolie with a long handle is good for cleaning the barrel. And unlike the brush, as you work it back and forth on the barrel it's not splattering you as the brush pops between the wheel spokes. |

For me brushes don't work as well as woolies, or a rag on the finger, at least for brake dust and regular dirt. Sometimes brushes are better for really tough crud, like the pre-storage cleanup of those backside nooks.

Following that, I use the Griot's Garage 15220 Wheel Scrubber Brush to remove the remaining, firmly-attached race pad dust. Due to the design of the 436M wheels, this one requires a fair amount of elbow grease using thumb and first two fingers. These wheels were not designed to be easy to clean. After cleaning and drying I use Sonax Wheel Rim Shield to ensure the wheels will be reasonably easy to clean the next time. This product is the best I've found so far, but it's far from allowing the easy removal of race pad dust.
