Here's the clearance for the coilover/tire with the 18x9 et42 and 255/35 RE71R (they run wider than most). A 245 would take 1-2mm away, and an 8mm spacer, another 2mm, which would be ideal for the 9" wheel IMO, or a 235/40.. When I go 9.5", I'll still most likely run 255's, but square.

After I set the rear ride height dial in the alignment, today, I'll give the car a detail it's been waiting for, in/out and underneath. Until then, cheers
First of all, I love your build!

I wanted to ask you a few questions about your wheel fitment, specially in the front. I got a set of Potenza S007A in 235/40r18s and Id like to run them in a square configuration with either a 18x9 ARC-8s or EC-7s in an et42 like yourself, I’m not planning to track the car and my suspension is stock. I know a lot of people run the 18x8.5s in either in an et35 or an et45 (with maybe a 3mm front spacer, that turns that et45 wheel to a et42), this seems to be a fairly common Fitment for the f22s; However, I like the 18x9 rim because it does have a slightly different profile look than the 18x8.5 version of the same wheel.

My question is in regards what you think would be the minimal front spacer size needed to clear the front strut with a 235/40r18 tire, given that this tire is roughly 3/4” narrower than the 255s you’re running, also how much camber do you think will be needed with the narrower tire. Thank you.

Hey man! Thanks for the love

Apex always recommends the 10mm spacer on the et42 9" setup. This allows for the inner clearance to the strut. I'm not sure on stock struts exactly how the fitment is, inside, but if using a 235 tire on that setup on stock suspension I think you'd be just fine with the 10mm spacer. The reason I'm opting for a 7.5-8mm spacer is because I've created a bit more clearance inside by installing a shorter coil spring which allows the perch to raise high enough to help (as pictured). Without the shorter spring on my setup, the tire would be much closer to the perch.

I see what you mean, basically it’s not just the strut, but also the spring perch clearance that comes into play with the wider tire. I think i might buy 3mm and 5mm spacers when I get the wheels and then go from there.

Im trying to keep the tire away from the fender as much as posible, worse case I’ll roll them a little. Thanks for the help. Btw, I love the color contrast between the yellow calipers and the black paint.

If you can get away with a smaller spacer then that's definitely the way to go. Without added negative camber that would be best, otherwise if you can reach -2.0 using M4 LCA's or camber plates then you can clear the fender no problem with 235's even with the 10mm spacer.

From Apex

"Front & Rear: 17x9" ET42 with 255/40-17 tires •Available in ARC-8, ARC-8R, and EC-7R designs.
•Front 8mm or 10mm front spacers required (hub extender required). 12mm can also work with negative camber dialed in.
•Rear negative camber and/or rolled fenders highly recommended"

Here's a 17x8.5 ET40 setup which I think is pretty solid if you're super worried about fender clearance. The take away on the 9" + wheels is typically that negative camber is required, weather minimal at -2* or more..

Wheels:
Flow Formed ARC-8 wheels in Satin Black
17x8.5" ET40

Hi there,

I had a question regarding the megan racing rear links. Are all the joints monoball and sealed with rubber boots or are they open?
They appear to be half the price compared to SPL parts, but the SPL one also look to be open spherical bearings which isn't ideal for road use.

Considering some upgrades but the car is daily driven in wet UK conditions!

Great build.
Thanks.

" All the pieces are constructed of a high-strength steel alloy which allows them to retain lightweight characteristics and are then powder-coated by a 3-Stage process to a brilliant metallic blue finish. The ends are constructed of Self-Lubricating ball joints which eliminate all play and binding normally associated with aftermarket 4-Link systems."

They're steel balljoints with rubber bushings. The thread locks are also protected but rubber boots. Great product for the price, imo

I manage to finally fit 255/35R18 (hankook rs4) NT03RR 18x9 ET45 with 17.5 or 18mm spacer up front with my KW Clubsport 2 way. Haven't drove it yet, but seems to have a tiny more room left.

-3 to -3.1 front and -2.25 rear.

Note: I am xdrive and don't have m4 lca.

Nice to hear! If you want more clearance to run a smaller spacer (10-12.5mm) you'll want to order a shorter front spring to get the collar above the tire, creating the additional space.

Where abouts are you located?

Update, sort of..

Maintenance has been a focus for me this spring, with COVID related delays with tracking, and overall time to get out has been difficult.. As things are reopening I wanted to have the car ready, no maintenance spared, so I took care of the following;

Brake fluid flush (Motul RBF660) required 3 new bleeders
MT Trans flush (Redline D4)
Coolant expansion tank hose (OEM, they age/crack)
Oil Change (LiquiMoly)
Diff Fluid flush (Fuchs Sintopoid 75w90)
Coolant checked for PH and all good
Checked all piping/clamps for seal
Torqued all suspension hardware (you'd be surprised what was slowly coming loose, namely front strut top hats/sway bar links)
Suspension/Chassis clean up
Retorqued all rotor hardware, added safety wire this time

During this time I also had an opportunity to swap my MP LSD to a Quaife LSD, more to come on my after thoughts. It was a straight trade with a friend who was trading his m235 in so I basically covered labour and got the Quaife for “free”. Sweet deal, really liking it so far.

Have an appointment at Powersports Garage @ Calabogie Motorsports Park tomorrow for a real track-alignment, done with string/laser etc along with a corner balance. This is something I've put off for time, and it should really help seeing that my previous alignment was rushed and done on a traditional rack..

Track days are starting up, have 3 confirmed bookings for Aug/Sept/Oct, currently searching for some in between events to attend.

I am located in Calgary, Alberta.

This is 17.5mm spacer. Theoretically, 15mm spacer could work. I stuffed 255/40R17 RE71R into a 17x8 et40 with 10mm spacer and there is no rubbing. The only things that changed mathematically are the tire width and the wheel. Hankook rs4 is wider than RE71R by .4" and shorter by 0.2in. The wheel should clear with 15mm spacer.

Update: I have 5-6mm space between tire and spring with hankook rs4 and 17.5mm spacer. tire will touch if I use 15mm spacer. If I used RE71R and 15mm spacer, I would have 1-2mm.

clunking sound coming from the front wheel areas. likely end links.

Yea in order to gain more clearance you're gonna require that shorter spring. I can get under the car and confirm but I believe mine is a Swift 070, and should be able to match the spring rate to KW's as per their specs (mine are 50lbs less).

If doing front links, grab a set of Hotchkis adjustable units. They're solid steel bushings with adjust-ability. Had mine on for the third year now, no issues.

Had a time attack event at TMP this past Saturday. First shake down at this track, needless to say.... I need more power now lol. Managed a 1:23.11 on my shakedown session, car and track got hotter and hotter, and I couldn't make up what I gained in line choices for what I was lacking in straight line power. IAT's were sky high, DME only gave me 7-9psi from 5k and up and hardly any timing advance (6-8* tops). This will change when I go back in the fall, though..

Car felt great otherwise with the new alignment/corner balance but noticed how much I need the added power at this track. Getting passed by CTR's on the straights like it was nobody's business

Alignment specs are F -3.1* 3mm toe out, R -2.2* 1mm toe in

255F RE71R on 18x9 et42 (10mm spacer) (picture after fender pull/roll)

265R RE71R on 18x9 et43

Some of the boys rides,

M3 DCT, 295 square Trofeo R's, Trophy BBK, full downforce car:

Rocco RMP's iR, beyond spec car (has tune and other changes from iR spec)

OG M2 DCT, Trophy BBKs, 295 square Trofeo R's, cage/seats etc

M3 CS, Trofeo R's and Pagid pads

Didn't log but was high 40's/low 50's in CELSIUS! As soon as we started our drive home I was back into the low 40's/hi 30's and making full boost again (14-16psi spike, 12-14 hold).

BM3 is coming for sure, thinking September along with a before/after dyno

Some more pics I found abroad;

New favourite

Everyone like sweaty back shots..
