Anyone had success with repairing a cracked wheel, or should I just source a new one?
After leaving the golf course the other day, merging onto another highway, my front left wheel took quite a shot from a pot hole. Rattled my teeth. I kept an eye on the tpms read out on the iDrive on the way home, and there was no loss of psi. When I got home, inspected the tire, and there didn't appear to be any damage or a sidewall membrane. The next morning on the way to work, the low pressure light popped and was reading 21psi. Stopped at a service station, filled it back up, and returned home. (I have a long commute and didn't want to chance it). Today, the shop finally got me in and found a crack in the wheel. They don't repair wheels but recommend a few local shops. Has anyone had a similar issue, and had a wheel crack repaired? I would prefer not to buy a new, or even used wheel if it can be fixed, but my knowledge in this arena is lacking. Any advice would be welcome. |

I had a cracked rim with existing curb damage. Cost to fix in the Bronx 100 or 150 for a perfect fix. Good luck

You gotta know the right people. I would go to a wheel specialist. There is a great one in my area, but I suspect that you do not want to drive to Eastern Long Island.
If the place is good, they will tell you straight away whether it can be fixed or is worth the cost. |

Hubcap Heaven in PHL
These folks have just about every wheel/hubcap you can imagine. If they don't have it stock, it will miraculously appear there in a day or two. I'm not saying that there will definitely be another car somewhere now up on cinder blocks, but......

Wheels can be welded, depending on the damage. Here's a wheel repair thread from the F3x section - you might find shop local to you mentioned. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1569505
I've had wheels refinished by Wheel Collision Center in Bath, PA. You can also buy wheels from them. http://www.wheelcollision.com/store/BMW.asp

If that is a factory 7.5" wheel then I'd just replace it - leave wheel repair for the rarities (or just prior to lease return). By the time you get through the time and cost of a repair, you are going to be close to a new replacement (especially if you get a used take off or salvage wheel). Wheels/tires are the most stressed, and most safety-related items on the car, so I don't like to take chances. And if it was me, I'd also consider that tire a write-off, there's got to be carcass damage, even if it hasn't already blistered or delaminated at the site of that hit.
