Question MHD OTS vs. BEF w/JB4

Hey guys, sorry to bother you.

I have an N55 M235i with JB4 installed, but i run the MHD OTS (stage 2+).

I didn't know that you can run an BEF through MHD to get the benefit of JB4 too, and as I have read online, people are saying the BEF is more reliable and smother than going with MHD OTS only.

Would you advise me to run the MHD BEF? and what will be the required steps to do so? since I already have the MHD OTS S2+ running currently.

Thanks

Car Setup:
-JB4 w/Bluetooth
-MHD OTS Stage 2+
-Custom DP
-VRSF Intercooler
-Arma Air intake
-M Performance exhaust

What is your reasoning for wanting to add the JB4? My only guess would be meth control? Just curious, as most BEF's are simply OTS maps designed to coincide with the JB4, which also has a setting to pair with a BEF.

Sorry for the late replay bro,
Unfortunately, I don't have WMI.
But, I had JB4 way before I switched to MHD OTS, and that is the reason I still have it.

Well since I still have the JB4, I always thought it works in parallel with the MHD OTS by adding additional boost (total boost= MHD OTS boost + JB4 map boost), is that correct?

But lately I have been reading online about the BEF, which is supposed to be safer and more reliable?

I want to know what is the benefit and differences of running MHD OTS Stage 2+ w/JB4 (my current setup) vs. going with MHD BEF?

More power, more consistent power delivery. Last I remembered, MHD doesn’t work at all with JB4 hooked up.

You mean MHD or BEF is the one with"More power, more consistent power delivery."?

Well for me its seems MHD OTS is working with JB4 hooked up

If you are not planning on WMI, use either MHD OTS maps OR JB4+BEF. MHD OTS maps are not designed to use in conjunction with JB4. I would suggest go with MHD OTS map and uninstall JB4 because flashing a dedicated map is more refined/reliable than BEF with a piggyback JB4, in my opinion. However, since you already paid for MHD OTS maps and JB4 BEF maps are free, you can always try JB4 and their free BEF map and see which one you prefer. You have the luxury of going back to MHD OTS maps anytime you like.

I decided to stick with JB4 + BEF because in the end, I installed their WMI kit and the integration is pretty good. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the feedback .

So basically, when you have a MHD OTS Stage 2+ flash, your JB4 won't be running anymore? even if switch between the JB4 maps to wont add additional boost?

So what is the best way to uninstall the JB4 then? can I just set it to map 0 and that will do the trick? I want to give it a try and see the difference

If u use mhd ots map, u can set JB4 to map 0 (i think it shouldn’t affect the mhd map). Then later u can try JB4 bef if u like.
Mhd ots maps are optimized for your mods. So why fiddle around with it and add JB4 maps when it is not designed to? Use either mhd ots maps, or JB4 with bef. I would not recommend using both mhd ots maps and JB4 on any maps except map 0.
If u decide to use mhd ots maps, the best way to uninstall JB4 is to physically remove it. Rip it off. Haha

Alright, I will set it to map 0 and see the difference
Btw, if i set JB4 to map 0, does that mean all the settings that ive modified under the "User Adjustment Settings" in JB4 app wont be working anymore? or do I have to set them back to the default option?

Hmm. Map 0 should mean JB4 is disabled. So I don’t think u need to reset to default.
Btw, get the mhd WiFi f-series adapter (black color) if u haven’t already done so. All wireless, super fast speeds.

yea I already have order one, should be getting it within this week

Btw, i found this in another forum while searching on the same subject online:

"To use mhd maps with jb4 gauges only, use 4/4 (Flash only) put white connector in dme back to its stock location (unhooked from jb4) use any map so map 1 will be fine.

To use mhd maps but wanting the jb4 to control boost only same as above except hook the white connector back to jb4.
"

What is the difference between the statement above, and switching JB4 to map 0?

The JB4 BEF is a great option and provides a lot of tuning options, just post a log on the n54tech forum and they give free tuning advice too.

The weird thing is, when i contacted BMS through email about going with the BEF, they didn't ask me to go with the BEF.
Instead they told me to run logs with JB4 (with Future D BEF flash option enabled and to set open loop to 0) at map 1 and 2 while having MHD OTS Stage 2+ flash.

I shared the logs results with them and they told me everything is good, and they recommended to go with EWG cable add-on for better boost control.

Tbh, i dont like this combo (MHD stage 2+ w/JB4 map 1/2), the car feels very jerky and jumpy, im planning to remove the JB4 completely and stick with the MHD OTS alone, but still haven't got the time due to this corona virus thingy.
