Question Gloss Black, CF, or Matte Roof Wrap?

I am a new owner of a 2016 Alpine White M235i and I just installed an M Performance Front Lip. I'm looking to now wrap the roof of my car but I am just having trouble deciding if I should go gloss black, CF, or matte? Anyone have any suggestions? Pictures of examples? Should I not wrap the roof at all? Thank you!

Based on the gloss black that's already present on the windshield and rear window I'd go that route, think it's the cleanest look of the options you're considering. Make sure to do the rails too, or whatever the side strips are called. That seems to be what a lot of cars come from the factory with and its a nice look.

Seconded. That said, gloss black vinyl is highly susceptible to scratching, abrasions, swirling, etc. I would try the wrap first to see how the look and the upkeep works for you, then look into having the panel actually painted (would likely not cost all that much; a few hundred) if upkeep is problematic.

I have 3m all around my cab vice the shadow line trim. Mine is in satin and other than the boot rubbing it dull, it has held up well with no scratches of blemishes.

Mine is not the roof, but all the trim that surrounds the front windshield, doors and rear boot area. Upkeep, nothing!

No it's not... I have a 3M 1080 gloss black roof and it's very low maintenance. No swirling even with regular hand washes.

You can wax and hand wash or touchless pressure wash it just like paint. No need to do anything special, but do note that a wrap is not forever. It will start to deteriorate after 3-5 years and get taken off or a new one put on.

nice set up ! do you have more pictures with angles of the car showing a little bit more of the roof ? and also have you thought about wrapping the rails too ? i think it'll make the roof look a lot better !

Please see my post with the link above.

I actually like the look of the rails exposed.

Yep gloss black and then you can go with gloss black grill, reflectors, spoiler, side skirts, etc.

I have gloss black and swirls do occur. So have to lightly polish or use a product to hide swirls before waxing. Another idea that i was thinking of doing is roof in vvivid 5d carbon fiber, the fin and rails gloss black. This is the same look as the M roofs

Thanks for the backup.

Fact is: it'll look as pretty as the work you put into keeping it clean. If you do what Xiaoxi does, yeah, it'll stay pristine for a while. For the rest of us (read: most of us) who don't hand-wash their cars weekly, etc., gloss black vinyl will swirl -- and the methods to take swirling and scratches out of paint don't work all that well with vinyl. Once scratched, always scratched.

I've got several friends with wrapped roofs, and I know the owners of two well-known car-wrap companies in the DFW area. I'm just passing on what they've told me (and this advice is why I never wrapped my 370z's roof, though I wanted to. BADly.)

Well, what I meant was that it seems less prone to swirling than paint. Handwashing, at the end of the day, does introduce swirling. But my experience has been that the wrap has very minimal signs of swirls compared to my paint, when it should be even more noticeable because it's gloss black.

And I mean sure, if you're getting your car washed at any old wash station with dirty scrubs, your car is going to swirl regardless. If you don't wash it, then theoretically it shouldn't swirl...only look dirty.

Swirling is a result of wiping contact in the presence of dirt.

I'm a fan of the carbon fiber roof, however, in this case, I would go with gloss black. It will look good with the rest of the gloss black that's already there.

I second this. I currently have mine wrapped in 3M 1080 series Gloss black and have not had any issues with swirls or scratches. 3M 1080 is the way to go. Avery would be great for smaller accent pieces, but larger exterior parts, I would recommend the 3M 1080 for wrapping.
