And what are these 400 reasons? I haven't see anything except it allows more floor flex, and to reduce it you need a heavier floor or stays.

Porpoising is related to the floor being too aggressive and the suspension resonating at the same frequency making it worse.

I am interested to see how far into the season they go with the no side pods, they could easily try a race weekend with the larger side pods from the first test. Those giant floor stays on side of Merc have been prone to breaking. The floor is flexing like crazy from lack of support.

If that double kick that Merc is using on the floor is causing the issue, then it makes sense that it will take time to resolve as a entire new floor is needed. They are more than likely being patient and going through their typical design process to ensure that they do it "right" this time.

Some updates and "trial" parts are coming this week, so FP1 and FP2 should be interesting. I really want to see them engineer their way out of this mess.

That is exactly my point, as a Miami resident its embarrassing. Whenever I mention the race to anyone outside of Miami all I hear about is the fake marina. I have received more texts from friends that are F1 fans about the marina than the race. It's actually a really nice track layout but world wide media is focused on the fake marina. I prefer the layout it to the typical Tilkedromes that F1 has been using.

As you stated, it's not a good look for the US/Florida/Miami.

I'm not sure if they will try because that'll be a whole race weekend that they can't collect data on their zero pods. But I suspect with the data they've gotten from the two years they see the zero pod as better.

So mercedes are bringing major updates for the W13 to miami. Images from the race and f1technical.

1) Rear wing: this is a really big one and is a proper step at drag reduction and should get mercedes alot more speed in 2 key areas:

a) a smaller main plane so alot less drag because they had the deepest wing throughout the whole field.

b) A wider DRS flap, merc used to have a really small drs flap because of the contours of their high downforce wing. This should help the power of their DRS as well.










2) New front wing: They have multiple versions of their front wing with tweaks near the end plates to help manage tire wake and reduce drag and sensitivity of the wing when ride height drops under braking and increased down force:









3) Revised beam wing with tapering and twists on the ends: this helps cut back drag and attempts to reduce high speed porpoising







4) Major weight savings: Apparantly they were 15 kg over weight at the start of the season, then in imola they loss 5kg, more weight savings this weekend.


5) Not sure if they did anything with the floor yet, but this should be their key area of focus.
