Michelin PS A/S 4 vs Conti Ext. Contact DWS06 Plus
My Michelin PS A/S 3+ need to be replaced on my 2016 228i x. I use a different car in the snow but want an all season on this one. I have loved these A/s 3+. I go through 3 rotaries on my commute and flying around them is a joy. There is a 1-3 month back order delay on the Michelins but I might be able to wait. I'd like your thoughts on the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus. How are they different? Thanks.

That's doubtful. I meant to point out that this forum generally goes fairly quiet starting on Friday afternoons. Just trying to help was all (if not very well).

I've had the A/S 3+, A/S 4 and DWS06 (not the plus model) and I prefer the stiffer sidewall on the Michelins as I live in the mountains and enjoy frequent spirited driving. The Continental was the smoothest/quietest ride, if that's important to you.
Unfortunately, I haven't had any of these tires on the 240 yet. When I finally got a set of the A/S 4's I thought they were a bit noiser than the A/S 3+ and wasn't thrilled with the grip in my stage 2 Golf R after switching from the Pilot Sport 4S, which is obviously in a different league. I'll need to get some All Seasons for the 240 in the fall and am considering trying the Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate - one more you may want to check out. |

I’ve been very happy with my A/S 3+. I assumed the A/S 4 would be the most similar to them. I’m not concerned with comfort or noise. It’s the cornering and fun factor.
Thanks for your opinion. |

I replaced the original PSS tires with DWS 06+ last fall. We don’t get much snow here but I wanted to be able to daily it through the winter with temps that can dip into the teens and twentys. I’ve been really happy with them overall. Grip is completely adequate even on fun roads. Comfort and noise are both good enough that I never think about the tires while commuting. My only notable gripe is that these are (predictably) much less sharp than the old Michelins. On center feel is kinda vague, and I have to get into a corner before I really get a sense for what the front end is doing. I think it’s a Conti thing. They always seem to have squishier sidewalls than Michelin or Pirelli.

If you check tirerack.com you will see the DWS 06 + out performed the Michelins in all tests and is the highest rated all season tire available.

Does / did Tirerack test the tires on a particular car (?)? Or are the results tabulated from purchasing questioners ?

I have had all 3 tires but not the Conti on my 230. Michelins handle noticeably better than the DWS. AS/4 is better in the rain than the AS/3+ was.
My previous car was an Infiniti G37S and the Michelin AS/3 was noticeably better handling than the DWS. I have had both flavors of the DWS and even the + has a soft sidewall in comparison to the Michelins. |

Been happy with my Conti DWS's for daily tires. Not too much sound, soft, last a long time. Going from a PSS and 200TW tires to A/S will always be weird, there will be noticeable difference in feel through the steering wheel.
They handled the snow in Tahoe well and held their own at Thunderhill when I had all the racecar stuff off the car - though I wouldn't recommend anyone to do this regularly. Would definitely recommend them, especially for the price. |
