Tire Size / xDrive Question M235i
Hey Everyone,
Doing some due diligence here for my future wheels/tires on my 2016 M235i xDrive Can I run the following without issues? Front: 18x8.5 et35 235/40 Rear: 18x9.5 et58 265/35 According to Apex: xDrive requires 225/40-18 front and 255/35-18 rear tires. Last edited by SoThirsty; 08-03-2020 at 02:43 PM.. |

Use this tool to make sure tire diameters are with 1% of each other https://tiresize.com/comparison/
Fitment varies, but for example I run 235/40 with a 18x8.5 et35 and 265/35 with a 18x9 et 47 with eibach springs, no issues. This post shows the et58 being run on a m235 https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1393898. I would just call up apex super friendly and helpful people over there. We generally recommend the 225/255 combo for a direct bolt-on xDrive fitment. The 235/40-18 + 265/35-18 combo will work for xDrive as its below a 1% diameter difference between the front and rear tires but it will require some modifications to fit without rubbing. There are multiple other tire sizes that you can fit on these wheels that will cause problems with xDrive so we recommend the 225/255 by default to prevent people from creating bad tire combinations.
With the 235/265 setup depending on the tires you are running and the ride height you may need additional negative camber in the front to prevent rubbing with 235/40 tires. An alternate front fitment that wouldn't require camber for this tire size is the 18x8.5 et45 wheel with 5mm front spacers. In the rear the 265s will require a 5mm spacer to prevent rubbing on the inner fender and the shock dust boot. -Tom

With that being said, many of our customers want to get wider tires than the OE both in the front and the rear which necessitates a staggered setup with this chassis (if your car came with 225/245) and our available wheel choices. Staggered can work well with the right tire choices so I would say the majority of our m235/m240 customers end up going staggered. Its a personal choice at the end of the day. -Tom
