I dunno. The CLA starts at sub 30k. If BMW is going to compete in this space, 42-43k starting will be unacceptable. Even if it has a pseudo-M badge.

The low end model, 220i or 228i, may be priced around CLA's starting range. But the CLA AMG is starting around 48K, and M235i is not designed to compete with the low end CLA models.

...i do hope your joking

The CLA that is FWD and has 200 hp costs sub 30k (more around 36k with basic packages).
The CLA45 AMG AWD 360 hp cost 48k (around 52k with basic packages).

A 228i (what US will get) Will be RWD and have 240 hp and should cost to similar current 128, so around 32k to begin (38k with packages?).

A M235i, while not as potent as a CLA45 AMG, should also cost about a good 6k less than it (I'm saying it will start at 42k, but we have no official figures for any car).

If a 220 comes to the USA, expect that to cost sub 30k, have 218 hp, and that more or less "competes" with the CLA250.

Also I doesn't start sub 30k.... it's 29900 but it has a non optional 925 destination fee so it really starts at 31k

The sub 30 is all marketing BS

So let me get this straight:

-Same kind of power as E46 M3.
-More torque than an E92 M3.
-Weighs as much as an E36 M3.
-More fuel effecient than ALL those cars.
-Not even the full-tilt M model, only a semi-M.
-Low 40's price tag.

I am jumping for joy! That is the deal of the friggin CENTURY!! The small, light, driver's car is back, and I already want one.

Please BMW I beg of you, make us an M2 CSL with 2800lbs and 400+ bhp. You will easily DOMINATE every comparison test there is, no two ways about it.

335is does use the N54 but the 135is does use the N55 + power kit. It's interesting to me that the N54 "is" cars (z4 and 3 series) have "overboost" (which is a lie, you almost always have overboost so they may as well just say the car makes 369lb/ft unless it starts to heat soak or unless you floor it for over seven seconds without changing gears). The N55 "is" cars and the M135i/M235i don't have overboost and only make 332lb/ft, I wonder why that is.

The posts saying the z4 35is switched to an N55 are news to me, I didn't know that but until last year they were using the N54.

Theres going to be a lot of disappointed ppl here when there is no M2. These M235i and M335i models just confuse things and clutter the models.

Wrong, the 335is is N54, the 135is is N55 (which is probably why the 135is doesn't have overboost function).

Now we just have to wait for new pictures to be leaked, and finally get a good look at that back end. That's going to make or break this for me, I think. The 3D render with the chopped off taillights looked terrible...

Really, Chris Harris had said when he tested the 435i that it seemed like the M235i would be quicker and have more hp, so why the surprise. I think BMW will give the standard 435i more hp later on.

Would love to see an M2. I might actually buy a new BMW again if they were do do build something that's sub 3000 lbs and over 350hp. BMW just has to accept that this will dethrone the M3, which should be easier to stomach, now that only the 4 door is called that. Calling the 2 door the M4 is already a step in that direction, if you ask me.

My only concern right now is the styling. The way the 2-series looks right now, it does not appear to be very aggressive, but that probably can be tweaked with some flared fenders and M style aero.

Both the current Z4 35i and 35is are still produced with the same N54 engine.

Check the mpg figures (the z4 has worse mpg than most N55 cars), realoem as well as zpost (the official news post related to the Z4 LCI). It is a common misconception that especially the 35i (ie the non-is model) ever switched to using the N55 engine.

The Z4 was never offered with the N55 engine and probably never will be.

Hard to argue that, The link below does seem to contradict it.

There is a misconception thats for sure

According to this:
https://app.bmw.co.za/dws/VTS/servle...modelCode=UC92
vs
http://www.2addicts.com/forums/attac...9&d=1381284592

The weight of the 135i coupe is IDENTICAL to the M235i. So the comparison above is incorrect.

Actually pretty disappointing they couldn't shave off any weight at all. Coming from a tuned N54 135i, don't think there's going to be much improvement in upgrading. Perhaps better tuned suspension/ handling, that's about it.
