BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Render

COMMENTS

The long rumored 2 Series Gran Coupe has yet to be spotted in testing, but we'd be highly surprised if BMW did not go after the CLA and A3 sedan with its own small sports sedan. The company is seemingly entering all niches in which its German competitors have offerings, even niches with much smaller sales potential than the small sedan space, so we expect to see a 2 Series "Gran Coupe" sedan after the Coupe and Convertible 2 Series are released. Artist Theophilus Chin has rendered what he thinks the 2 Series Gran Coupe may resemble, drawing heavily upon the nearly fully uncovered M235i Coupe we showed you four months ago.

The 2 Series Gran Coupe would be a 4 door version of the Coupe model, but with a sleeker/elongated roofline and roomier back seating (much like the 6 Series Gran Coupe relates to the 6 Series Coupe). It will share the engine/transmission/model lineup with the Coupe and Convertible.

The M235i / 2 Series Coupe will be revealed in just a few weeks time and will have its world debut at the 2014 Detroit auto show in mid-January.

Production of the Coupe model begins in November 2013. It might seem odd to have the production date before the auto show debut, but this isn't without precedence. The 4 Series began production last month, but is now just making its auto show debut at the ongoing Frankfurt IAA show.

I hope this is way off.. Seems to be judging by the spy shots we've seen for the m235i.. I'm assuming the 2GC will share that same front end

Next generation 1 Series is said to be built upon the UKL (FWD) platform.

The upcoming 2 Series generation (which shares the same platform as the current RWD 1 Series) will be RWD.

The rumor you mention is about the 2 Series that's two generations from now. Since it may continue sharing a platform with the 1 Series, it stands to reason that it may also be FWD at some point. Time will tell how this all evolves.

The current F30 is ugly and large. Even the current 4-series is quite unimpressive to me. I *really* miss Chris Bangle now.

The 2-series really has the potential to be a great "3-series". I only hope they don't tone down the engines too much to favor the 3-series. The M4 engine would surely fit in an M2

This is getting interesting and I'm curious to see how BMW responds to their competitors. Assuming there is a facelift in the pipeline for the F30, the 2GC will have to be pretty special to fend off the A3 Sedan when it comes to looks.

The CLA just seems odd especially on the rear end so for me this has to better than the Audi A3 Sedan. Still as ugly as folks say the F30 is they're selling well so with a sensible face lift I expect the 2GC to do well.

it is like the 3 series became the 5 series and the 2 series is becoming the 3 series. These cars get bigger and bigger lol. Looks nice though

I really hope they don't make the 2-Series FWD. I think the 3er has gotten too big. So if that is the smallest RWD car available, I will look elsewhere for what I want.

Shame that the hatchback will become FWD, it was a pretty USP especially in M135i guise

So, like Audi there will be scaled versions of the same car.... It'll be interesting to see where pricing will fall between this and the 4-Series GC
