Yup. Diet can have a huge effect. Our younger dog (Baxter) burned grass early on. We switched up his food and there's been no issue since.

I think it has more to w/ nitrogen concentration, too. Caveat to the above is 1 small spot at the base of our deck stairs. Baxter will always hit that spot 1st when we walk in the back yard. As a result, so will our older dog. Both normally help grass grow, but the N concentration is too high in that 1 spot. This might also be why some say females burn grass more than males, females tend to pee in 1 spot whereas males don't.

Also, both my dogs are intact. They lift a leg, squat and do a hybrid if the two. It just depends on what they are trying to mark/pee on.

[QUOTE=TXSTYLE;27046318]It has been a very long time since I have owned a pet. I grew up with 2 different breeds of dogs (in different states) a Boxer and Husky, both males.
I also have spent time around cats (females) from my relatives and friends homes.

So we have decided to get our first family dog since marriage and my 2 children.Yasuda over 2 decades! My wife, children and I specifically wanteda smaller breed that would mostlybe Indoors. Here's my question...
Between Male and Female, are raised & trained.

Did I read correctly somewhere that you're getting a 'custom breed hybrid'? What is that?

lol. A poodle and a King Charles?! Isn't that like an elephant having it's way w/ a squirrel?!

The choice of words seemed that the breeder was doing something unique for TX. 3k would seem pretty cheap for that so I'm guessing/hoping not.

Not a standard poodle, yes that be, well awkward! More of miniature or toy poodle breeding with the king charles.

As for the price point, not unusual and don't think what the breeder is doing for TX is totally unique but maybe he will elaborate on that.

There are many bad breeders out there cranking out puppies. Our newest dog is a Boykin Spaniel which has a very dedicated following in the south. But with some recent publicity (Stephen Colbert has one) their popularity has taken off and so have the number of amateur breeders. The breed, like many, can have congenital health issues and a reputable breeder does the proper testing of the breeding pair to ensure these issues are not passed along. Ultimately you pay a higher price for a quality breeder. Our puppy was $2,500 and we waited almost a year for Tilly.

Definitely not extraordinary. But technically it is indeed a hybrid. Extra commentary aside.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel & Minature Poodle.
We had an opportunity over a year back to spend some time with a friend who owns 2 and they were so sweet, adorable, fun and intelligent.
For our needs, it checks all of the boxes.

Cavaliers from a reputable breeder are up to that price point too (and even more for ruby or Black and Tan solids). I thought the first 2 were expensive at half that back in 2005-2006.

Cavapoo's are great dogs, enjoy! We still have one of our two king charles spaniels and as Rick can attest, they are great dogs as well.

Phew! That makes more sense. lol

Yeah, that's the problem with breeders in general. A breed doesn't need to be super popular, just a loyal following to attract scourge to set up puppy mills. Too many people don't do homework/research and pick up a pup for instant gratification.

I am happy to announce that in our case, I spent countless weeks researching and speaking with various breeders and even pet brokers.
I settled on a family owned and operated Breeder for 7yrs who is local (1.5hrs away) and very highly recommended.
It was important for us to be able to visit and see how the entire living conditions are and lay eyes on both parents. We were very impressed and feel confident in our decision for multiple reasons including multi year health gurantee and countless references including the Veterinarian of the parents. $3,000 is an investment, when you can find thousands of dogs for Free or a few hundred bucks.
I will post pics when she arrives...

I was given the generous opportunity of naming her by my wife and kids.
I am choosing one of my favorite Rums which is also a beautiful and exotic name: Zaya. Pronounced: Zi-Yuh.

This is admittedly a long shot, but does anyone have any contacts/experience/recommendations with Russian Blue breeders?

My buddy Tigger passed away this fall (over 20 years old), and HIS bff has been mopey and wants..... a pair of kittens.

Since he's a Russian Blue and my wife and I *really* like the breed's characteristics (smart, loving, snuggly), we're in the market (aaaaaand, Max just jumped on my chest as I'm typing this). I was working with one, but figured out he was a scammer before any money changed hands.

So, if anyone has a recommendation for a Russian Blue breeder, please PM me!

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

R.
