I also just recently came from a e90 328xi.
Got my fabspeed catted dp on the way right now.
Threw a AWE with midpipe exhaust and will get BM3 once my warranty expires in July.
Happy Modding!

Welcome to the F22 family! My 230i is my DD and enjoy it so much more than when I drive my wife's 428i GC. The 2-series is best with only one passenger and when we go on trips, etc the GC is more utilitarian. Dang, the 2-series just reminds me of my E46!!!

Welcome to the club.
I know this is my pet peeve, but why a catless downpipe? It does very little for performance, is illegal on the street, will cause your vehicle to fail inspection, and is completely responsible from an environmental point of view.
May as well just start shitting in the street.

I totally agree. Very illegal in Washington state to do anything that changes the stock emissions.

Isn't altering the manufacturer's emissions equipment against Federal law as well?

I live in a state where only certain locales are required to perform periodic emissions testing, and the others do none at all. That's been a noticeable change from California and the Northeast, where I've spent most of the rest of my car-owning years.

FT,

Welcome and congratulations! You have yourself an awesome car.

I will have to abstain from the emissions discussion (I use computers to solve worn out parts issues since I drive my cars into the ground), but I will say that I have never removed or defeated emission controls from any of my street driven cars. Back in the 70's and 80's (when dinosaurs roamed the earth) it was common as the control systems were a huge performance debit. Today's cars, unless you are planning on turning it into a full time track car, suffer little performance loss from the emission control systems. Your call, but I would stick with modifications and software adjustments that keep the mandated controls in place. Resale is typically easier as well. I am currently looking for another track / rally car that I can street drive as well and many guys remove the cats on their "performance" whips...I will not buy these cars.

Good luck with your new M235. It is a brilliant drive.

Haha, I had a catless DP on my F30 328i and it provided a big torque increase as well as a noticeable change in sound. They are also less expensive compared to a high-flow DP, and I'm already planning on tuning the car with JB4, and the tune can remove the CEL.

Thanks for all of your feedback, but this is my car!

Did you actually measure the torque on a dynamometer?
Also, what model year was your 328? As others have noted, the power advantages of going catless decrease with newer models.

Enough natural gas is flared in the Permian everyday to power Texas but people are worried about catless downpipes.

I haven't logged into the forum for a little while.. it's been a hectic month! I blew my charge pipe and luckily received a VRSF aftermarket pipe at Bimmer Performance Center, had a muffler delete done, and then installed a red start button and stainless ///M pedals!

We, too, switched from an F30 - 2013 328iX - to a 2015 F22 - 228i M Sport manual with 17k miles. It's my wife's main car so no thoughts of mods currently, although the broken charge pipe has me considering it!

Very very nice. I would've loved to have a manual, but this car was right down the road and the price was too good!

If you do anything I would suggest the charge pipe first!

After a few long trips (2+ hours) I've realized I don't like the amount of drone the muffler delete creates.. I wish the aftermarket performance mufflers on the market weren't $1k > !

Beginning my research today to see what else I can do. I might find a used OEM muffler, keep the resonator delete, install a catless DP and then get larger 4" tips.

Any tips?

Purchased a stock M2 muffler to be installed on Friday (6/21). Will reinstall the valve connections and run the resonator delete with stock muffler until I get a catless downpipe!

It's too late now, but for the group, the M Performance muffler for the M235 makes for a wicked, clean, and semi-exotic sound and warble. It's quite a bit louder than the stock unit. Add the a catted downpipe and everything is elevated. Not an ounce of drone either. You can source the MP muffler for around $750 from online BMW parts vendors. Best part, it's a factory piece so is engineered for the car and N55, it fits perfectly, and will last. The stock tips can be reused as well if you want.
