Hi all,

I have a 2018 M240i xDrive convertible. Car has 6000 miles. I just changed the factory 18" to a dedicated winter setup of 17" with Blizzaks.

Right after the change, and maybe it is just the snow tires, I feel like the steering is wobbly and I have often *felt* that I have to hold it ever-so-slightly to the left for the car to go straight. But I have also noticed the opposite as well (hence my suspicion that it may just be the damn snow tires throwing me off).

Got the alignment checked today, so attached are the alignment results.

Questions:

- do the results warrant getting an alignment done? (Some measurements are slightly off but the shop said nothing to warrant an alignment)

- the print out claims "All Rear wheel drive Models" so did this shop do the alignment check wrong?

Thank you in advance for all the help!

Cool, did the dealer do this or an independent shop?

You're probably not going to notice if you get it aligned.

Without knowing what the OEM Spec for the Alignment is, there is no way to know how far out of spec you are, or if it requires adjustment. Search for the Spec...

I'm assuming the before/after are the difference between the Summer/Winter mounts...?

If so, I don't see a major difference between the two, again, other than not knowing what it actually should be.

Tires make a huge difference in driving feel. Snow tires are softer.

An independent shop; they are quite reputable in the Twin Cities area.

If they didn't use ballast to BMW specs in checking the alignment. it wont be very accurate.

That sounds exactly like the Blizzaks I've had on other cars.

When I tried to do an alignment on my 16 M235i xDrive it called for specific weight to be placed in the front seats and trunk. Not sure if your shop placed the weights or not or if it even calls for it on a convertible. Looks like shop entered the right vehicle so spec should be correct.

You have softer tires with a bigger sidewall. You definitely are going to notice a loss of steering control (your wobbly feeling). Sounds normal to me.

Any problem with the 17 inch wheels fitting with M Sport brakes?

You have to be careful with your wheel choice. Not all 17 inch wheels will fit. Tire Rack is a good place to check fit.

I have the same car. Camber (lack of adjustment) was a big problem. Talk to your service advisor.

Check the tyre pressures. My BMW service guys put 50 psi in my rear tyres (!) and 42 in the fronts after a wheel alignment I requested post-delivery to fix a slightly off centre steering wheel. Before the alignment everything felt great but after the steering just felt wrong, like I had to do constant little corrections all the time. I was freaking out a little wishing I had just put up with the slightly off centre steering wheel until I checked the pressures. I put 34 in the fronts and 36 in the rears and it now feels absolutely perfect. These are 18” staggered run flats as I live in a very hot and dry part of Australia. Still, it is worth checking the pressure to make sure they are not too high like mine were, or too low. It really made a huge difference to my car.
