228i Actual 0-60?

Howdy all, I am looking into purchasing a 2016 228i. I see 0-60 times all over the place, from 5.1 to 7 seconds.

What is a real life expectation? No mods or anything. I understand there are variables such as road/tires/weather/elevation, etc. Just looking for something real life.

Thanks all for the great info on this site!

I drove one before getting the the 235i. It runs well, biggest notice is slight turbo lag. Stuff i saw online was 5.5.

Also some solid articles on why its one of the funnest. Enjoy

In 5 years of completely happy ownership, I've never taken a stopwatch to it. I know it goes fast enough to get me to the next light in time for it to turn red.

My wife just bought a 230. It's still in the break-in period, so I haven't pushed it. However, even without pushing it, I can say it's got pretty good acceleration. Rough guess: sub 7 seconds without WOT or reving above 4500 rpm. Should be easily sub 6 seconds if you push it.

The 228 should be fractionally slower.

Not an exact measure, but picked up a 2016 228i also - foot to the floor in Sport mode I'm past 60 before I can glance at the speedo and a nice little jolt back in the seat.

I would say the 5.5 sec number published by BMW is pretty accurate. Any number under 6 seconds is going to feel pretty quick.

For comparison purposes, I owned a new 1985 Corvette. It's published numbers were 0-60 in 5.7 second and 14.1 seconds 1/4 mile. That car felt amazing quick back in the day. I say even today, stomping the gas in that car, it would still feel pretty fast.

Amazing the kind of performance these new cars produce and also give great mileage. These are some great times to be a car guy.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies, just what I was looking for! It's my first real fun car purchase ever. Realizing it's time to have some fun with some of the money I have saved and work I've done. This car looks like a great start for me!

I just found out her car is past the break in period. I'll let you know just how long it takes to get to 60 the next time she let's me drive it!

Nice of you to provide this “service”

We should be noting if our experience is rwd or XDrive, automatic or stick.

From my research, it depends on the configuration. The manual, RWD convertible being the slowest, and the auto, x-drive coupe being the fastest. I've read that in this configuration, real-word testing puts it at 5.0 flat. I just picked up an m-sport 228i yesterday in that config, I'll let you know what I find out!

Most published specs say 5.4-5.5 sec 0-60.

and by all means plug in a dinantronics sport tuner.

https://x-ph.com/dinantronics-sport-...-bmw-f-series/

it provides a very mild, but noticeable boost and reduces turbo-lag. very low risk of any damage / failures. out of an overabundance of caution, it might be worth turning it off completely in very high temp situations, but otherwise i drive mine every day in the sport+ setting. it's made my favorite BMW (out of 9 previously owned) even favoriter!
