Ordered this from XPH last year: MAD N20/N26 Intercooler + Charge Pipe Combo

Finally getting it installed now but here’s what my mechanic had to say:

Hi, this is Tom from xyz. I want to update you about the repair.

The new intercooler you brought is approximately 4 times heavier and a little bigger than the stock intercooler. The connections are plastic and only 2 bolts are holding it in place. You will need to drive the car very carefully. If you hit a bump fast, it might come off. Also, there is a slight dent on the intercooler. Please review the pictures and you will have a better idea of what is going on.

You got one of the best-performing intercoolers on the market.

Ignore your mechanic; he seems not to know much about intercoolers.

When judging an intercooler, you judge the design (stepped core vs. single), core density, and fitment.
He never even mentioned how MAD is far superior to stock in all these aspects.

MAD is heavier than stock because it's a bar and plate intercooler like any other aftermarket (except the Wagner Comp). It's also dual-core vs. single-core.
The weight difference is 100% normal.

As for the connections, MAD is one of the best-fitting intercoolers. We never had any fitment issues, and we sure never had one fall off after hitting a bump too hard.
We never had this issue with any intercooler; if your mechanic has these problems, he should double-check his installs.

You have nothing to worry about we have 100's of these intercoolers out in the wild along with other brands that use the same type of connection on the factory bracket.

When it comes to the weight and size, It's around 30% larger, includes metal end tanks and the density of our core is nearly triple that of the factory cooler. All of these things do make it heavier than the factory core.

Luckily the performance improvement outweighs the slight weight gain.

I think those are fair observations from someone who doesn't know about this platform and intercoolers in general. I think you should thank him for at least providing you with the heads up, but not worry about it.

Get a new mechanic, I have the same exact FMIC and it works perfectly
