Hey everyone

So, recently had my m235i F22 (non xdrive) repaired after it ingested it's serpentine belt. Haven't driven it a huge amount, however did notice the other week that the steering wheel was on the piss.

Took it in to be aligned, they couldn't do it, needed the track rod ends unseizing. That was done this morning, then drove off, steering wheel still on the piss, but it didn't pull to one side, which was great.

Took it back, further diagnosis, needs new track rod ends and tie rods because they are bent (not sure how, why, but roads are shit and the car has done 92,000 miles over it's life on uk roads, and suffered an impact to the front axle on one side fairly early in it's life, and then some nasty knocks on the other side due to some massive potholes recently round where i live)

However what has blown my socks off, is the fact it's going to cost in excess of £500 to be fixed, parts aren't that much, it's the labour...is it really 5 hours to do? Anyone know the official book spec, to my mind tie rods and track ends are not really any more than 3..maybe even 2 at a push?

if it was an xdrive i'd agree...

5 hours in definetly excessive. Recommend you do the work yourself if you can if not a shop should charge no more than 2 1/2 labor hours for that job. Such a simple task tbh. For reference I did my HPFP in 3 hours and rear differential in 3 hours too. All which takes less time than tie rods to be replaced. Hope this helps!!

Tie rod ends should an hour for both. R&R the steering gear is 5.3 hours.

There should be a charge for alignment as well as a steering angle sensor calibration.
