woo hoo free wash !

OK, nothing like expecting to pay for something and get it free.

last week had car detailed and 4 stage polished. looked awesome, so this week I was a bit scared to wash it and strip off any of his coatings, so took it in for a basic external wash. (machine polish was $500)

"oh" he says "you do know the firs wash we do to your car after any major work is FREE" woo hoo, almost like finding fries at the bottom of your bag.

He also advised me against using the "california duster brush" he said there fine for garage queens, but will drag dust off the car and scratch it, said better leave it and just wash the car

LOL on the drive home parked it up, fine layer of dust <banghead> I do have pics will post shortly

The soaps used in car washes are designed not to strip wax, and synthetics/ceramics are even harder to remove. If you wash at home, DO NOT use dish soap like Dawn. It absolutely will strip wax.

Not many people give you something for nothing, even if it is in the bill.
If it's in the bill it's profit, nowadays post covid, small business's very rarely will do that.

The last job he did was a 4 stage machine polish and scratch removal, had my car for a good 4 hours, my dashcam timed the ins and outs, of course he could have just let it be and etc. but the guy does come across as a down to earth bloke, really good at his job.

Even if it is just a car wash, 30 minutes worth of work is still time he has to pay somone to do my car and not do someone else's car.

I've been going to a lot of local business's indy's etc, some for years, not one has said, don't worry about it, that's one me, usually is pay me next time when your passing or I'll cut you a discount.

I still say when your expecting to pay for something and the owner turns round and say's, no problem your returning car wash is on us, that is class, and no where does it say that. Even the girl who booked it in never told me, "oh this one will be free" so I guess depending on the customer maybe ?

Anyway, I'll take a freebee anywhere I can.

That goes for extra fries in the bottom of my bag

I feel you on the layer of dust piece. I didn't know how much debris was in our air until I started caring about keeping a car clean. This past weekend I cleaned the crap out of my car in the garage. Within 30 minutes the car was covered in cottonwood bits and dust. It comes off with a blower or duster but still.....what a pain. And then if it rains and soaks the dust the car looks horrible. I just need to stop caring as much.

the thing is i "feel" like if you just leave the dust on, it accumulates, I'm out there in the evening, after work I KNOW I'm not supposed to use the cali duster, but I run it over thoroughly dusting over passes, next car wont be black

I use a California Duster for years mostly everyday and this doesn't damage or scratch the paint. The more often you use it and the best it is at collecting dust.

During summer we mostly don't have rain and I rarely wash the car. I use Ultimate Quick Detailer by Meguiars. This keeps the paint glossy and flawless.

A lot of times the best thing you can do for your paint is just leave it.
Even the most careful wash can add micro scratches and paint correction removes a thin layer of clear coat

In the summer I rarely wash my car, it’s white also and it’s my new favorite Color it’s so easy to keep clean. I’ve done a single stage polish because that is all that was needed. On my black 3 series it needed a 2 stage: compound and polish.

I will not polish them again but I will wax them once per year. Washing also introduces moisture which corrodes, and dusting scratches the paint.

In the winter to avoid scratching the paint and preventing rust I just hose off any salt. Washing the car in the winter is sure to scratch the paint big time, you are moving around salt and sand. Yes the car doesn’t look shiny but who cares it gets dirty right after you drive it anyways
