Bolt ons without a tune?

A few months ago I purchased a 2023 BG M240i x drive and I love the car. However it’s time to start modding. So far I’ve got a milltek catback exhaust and an AA downpipe on order with plans to purchase a dinan CAI in the near future as well.
My question is are all of these parts safe to put on without tuning the car first or does it require a tune to be safe? To be clear I understand I probably won’t make any performance gains with these parts alone I decided to start with making the car sound good first before focusing on performance. I’m kinda new into car modding in general so any advice or tips you have are welcome thank you.

FWIW I've been on a Remus catback and AA catted dp for months now without a tune. I can't speak to adding an intake into the mix but my setup is generally considered safe to run on stock tunes. Especially the AA downpipe considering it uses cats that are good enough to not trip a CEL for cat inefficiencies (which you can see with some catted dp).

I do plan on getting a tune in the coming months though and I'll be doing some data logs before tuning to see how the car is performing in its current state.

It is safe to run these parts. And you will get a performance boost due to the AA DP. Not as high as with a tune but in the 10-25hp region.

I wouldn't be worried about adding these mods without a tune. You will get a little boost of power as well. What paths do you have for tuning as I assume your DME is locked down? Piggyback tune may be the best available option.

Currently planning to run the jb4, I’m still figuring stuff out about tuning and whatnot but from what I’ve gathered since the car has the B58TU and that comes with the upgraded fuel pump and I’m adding the aa downpipe once I throw the tune on that technically makes it stage 2? (Or at least I think hahahaha) Still trying to figure out which map I’ll need to run it on because currently I think I’ll wanna just keep it on pump gas for convenience. I’m not looking to win any races I just wanna liven up the car for now, but who knows maybe at some point I’ll start playing around with ethanol mixes.

Cool. Yes, having the highflow downpipe will allow you to run "stage 2" maps. I had the JB4 on my 2019 M240i for a few months. It did a little for my car on the first couple maps. It wasn't until trying Map 3 and Map 4 with a couple gallons of ethanol when I really noticed the power increase. This was prior to installing my TU fuel pump as I was running into maxing out my trims with the stock fuel pump and only a couple gallons of ethanol. Basically the fuel pump rail pressure was having trouble keeping up with the added volume of gas required with ethanol. Not something you will need to worry about with the TU pump.

I think you will notice a little difference with the Jb4 and just pump gas. But I think the car will wake up a lot more if you augment your gas with 3 to 5 gallons of ethanol. Unless you have really good pump gas you will start running into timing corrections adding some more boost. The ethanol will help keep you out of the corrections and should help to advance the timing as you rev towards redline. This is based on my experience and the fact the pump gas around me isn't the best. However, i did find a gas station within 15 minutes that sells both E85 and 93 octane at the same pump which makes throwing E in the tank a lot more convenient. I should also add the guy who bought the JB4 unit from me when I switched to MHD didn't get too much from it using different maps and regular pump gas. He has a m340i which is a B58TU car.

I'm guessing he would recommend a flash tune like BM3 or MHD. I switched to MHD and it is hands down much more effective than the JB4. But assuming your DME is locked down so you wouldn't be able to flash tune. I believe it is feasible to unlock your DME but the process sounds pricey and takes a while.

Yeah DME is locked so I’m stuck with piggybacks AFAIK.

map 1 for 91 octane
map 2 for 93

Whichever map you opt for, you can expect a significant power gain to enhance your driving experience without compromising the car's dependability.

They said its a 2023, so we're in the wrong forum. Regardless, the only way to unlock these post 06/20 DMEs is through Femto and it is NOT 300.

I was in the same predicament with my '21 240 before an Altima made it a non-issue. For what its worth, the only thing I had to code out was the EDC for my coilovers, every other bolt on worked perfectly without any tune. Piggybacks are his best bet unless he wants to send his DME across the ocean. There's a really good thread on the process in the G80 forums
