For the sake of documentation and future 6MT owners, I would like to share my experiences here:
2018 F22 M240i, 50k miles, daily driven, never severe clutch wear or abuse. 50k mikes - flashed BM3 Stage 2 E30 - no clutch slip. Shortly after, flashed Stage 2+ E30 with TU pump - clutch slipped immediately on the first acceleration. DME fault codes 1D3101 and 1D3201. Clutch will slip almost immediately in any gear past 40% throttle. Local BMW specialist Silicon Valley Bimmer has stated that there is a strong possibility the flywheel has been damaged from the clutch slipping. The dual mass flywheel will clock itself 90 degrees from the additional torque and clutch slipping. This has led to some of his B58 manual customers needing the flywheel manually cut and removed from the vehicle due to the flywheel rotating and covering the bolts. I have ordered a replacement OEM flywheel just in case my flywheel has suffered the same fate and needs replacement. I have seen several forum and FB B58 group posts stating 6MT owners have held up to these power levels just fine with no slip. I have seen other posts stating anything past stage 2 will require clutch upgrade. I want to share my experience to let others know that it is a very good idea to plan for clutch upgrade in series with Stage 2 E30 power levels, in an attempt to be proactive on clutch slipping, and save a potential flywheel replacement as well. The flywheel is not a cheap part - at the time of this post it is $1,850.00 with tax and shipping from FCP Euro. |
