2 tone m235i (is emulating the new i7 possible?)

Since picking up my used 235 last month, I've been evaluating options as far as aesthetics and after seeing the new 2 tone paint jobs BMW is offering on the i7, I think I want to replicate it the best I can.

My 235 is estoril, and I'll keep that as the base color -- just need to find the right shade of white to put on it for the second color. Planning to chrome wrap any gloss black bits as well. Might put chrome side skirts on it as well. Just trying to figure out what trim pieces I'll need to add and how to handle colors on the trim itself in addition to the actual body.

When I finally get around to it, I'll post an update here.

In the meantime, if anyone has advice/suggestions/creative ideas to help me emulate some of this look in my 2 series - I'm all ears.

Luckily the F22 has a really well defined crease running along the body which will make the line really easy to follow. You’ll definitely have something unique! My advice would be to wrap it first before you commit to paint as your feeling for it may change once it’s done and wrap is non-destructive on the way off.

That was actually the plan. It seems like a cheaper way to "try before you buy" and with stage 2 + FBO I kind of like the idea that it wouldn't look quite as "race" or "tuner" as just a bunch of carbon fiber stuck on to the body, but still being able to gap people would be fun xD

Just imagine getting gapped by that paint job.

How about doing some Photoshop work first? I’ve done this for my M235i convertible to see whether the windscreen surround might look better in black, to match the fabric top. I’ve also done it with different colours for the canards on the front air intakes. For the top I decided it didn’t look better when the top was down and for the canards decided they’d look much better in the body colour than the grey they are currently.

If you go this route you’ll find you may need to put some time into taking a wide variety of photos because Photoshop likes to have clearly-delineated colour/shade differences if you want an easy life. Too subtle and you spend hours colouring-in individual pixels, whereas clear lines reduce this to a few clicks.

You might also find that a simple coach line might make a bigger difference than you expect. Coachines of various types and bespoke coachlines are standard offerings on Rolls-Royce etc and it’s surprising how much they enhance the look. Relatively easy to Photoshop on if you have some flat side-shots of the car.

Interesting piece here on the fellow doing them on Rollers c. 2015: https://money.cnn.com/2015/04/30/aut...tripe-painter/.
