So will all cars get the air blades/slats with the MPerf aero kit, or will the slats be absent for US spec cars that opt for MPerf aero as they are for the regular US spec bumpers?

That's a good spot on the carbon spoiler, thank god!

I seem to remember the m performance add on splitter needing painting so think it isn't a whole new front and therefore you wouldn't get slats.

Agreed it looks much better with the whole bit painted black. Looks much better. I think I'd do that if I fitted the front add on to my mineral grey.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'd rate the rear a 4 out of 10. I think the rear is the worst angle on the car, and I don't understand why they didn't use tails more like the 4-sereis....

But it looks nothing like a Civic.

I don't know this for a fact, but this is based on how every other manufacturer handles this type of racing.

The nav screen, radio, etc are all there because these are literally production cars that are taken and modified. Ever seen the inside of other manufacturer "cup" cars? They all use varying names for their factory originated racing series, but they all use the same formula: take a car off the production line, drop in a roll cage and do suspension/aero work, then sell them to race teams who will participate in the racing series where all the cars are identical. Ripping out the dash would mean dropping in something else, which would add to the expense.

It's all about advertising and supporting motorsport. The interior modifications are made in the interest of safety, not necessarily performance (yes, a roll cage adds stiffness, but it's added for safety).

Not to be that complaining guy, but it looks overwrought and tacky. And those wheels. Come on. If you're going to charge 3x what the market rate is for styling enhancements, at least be the best at it.

The Racing version on the other hand, is pure sex on wheels. Just make the M2 look like that.
^^^ All those add ons look tasteless and tacky. The stock m sport has a nice clean look.

And does anyone know if the 228i/328i have the same diff as the 335i. M235i? If its the same carrier, the 228i with the m-sport (why isn't that called an m228i? just confusing) the 228i with is shocking 240 pound lighter weight, and shorter gear ratios (if the same as the 328i) would be bad ass. A conservative tune to bring it damn near stock n55 numbers, way better gearing and less weight over the nose, what's not to like?

It will be really cool if the M2 has an "S20" or whatever they would call it with a very similar treatment the S55 got just minus 2 cyl out of the middle.

I know, I know flame suit on. I just think it would be really great if each M car had it's own motor like the olden days. Let's face it, most of us would rather have an e30 M3 (evo..drool...) over an e30 325is.

Okay fair enough, but is the hardware for the A/C, Nav, and radio still there?

That is an interesting choice. If it's the ZF8 in there, that's really amazing, because auto transmissions don't typically take well to motorsport abuse, even with additional cooling. I would have expected the 6MT.

Are we certain it isn't a race gearbox wired up to the paddles? That would seem an expensive swap, considering that these are production cars, but transmission failures are a huge part of motorsport when you're driving on production parts.

EDIT: This guy says Germany (presumably BMW) already told him it's an 8-speed ZF. Pretty remarkable. I bet the transmission cooler is as big as the intercooler

We won't know for sure until someone gets their hands on one. Keep in mind that every modification they make requires additional effort.

The intended purpose of these cars is homologated racing. It's not important that the cars deliver maximum performance, only that they're all identical (and that they don't fail constantly).

The degree to which they're customized is going to be limited by costs. So they might, for example, take out the AC compressor, but leave the evap core and just cap the lines. Then again, they might just leave it in there, because these are production cars, and you can't get an M235i without A/C.

Styling (exterior / interior)
M Performance aero kit (requires M Sport pack)
Black decorative grid for the BMW kidney grille,
Exterior mirror caps in carbon,
Side sill foils with M Performance inscription
BMW M Performance accent stripes in two color versions
This might be an easy question for the BMW veterans out there, but do you have to get the entire aero kit or can you purchase pieces individually at some point? It appears that the aero kit includes the front lip, CF spoiler, and the diffuser (interestingly, not the side skirts).

Can you buy everything separately? I'm sure the prices will be through the roof, but I can't help myself from wanting the spoiler and diffuser combo. Not sold on the front lip, however.

So this is officially the second 19' wheel option too ? I'm not impressed with these...guess it will be the others, as long as they aren't too expensive.

Front lip would be an adventure in Midwest winters too - especially ones like we are having this year.

I will drive this year round, as I always do, so you gotta consider that.

Pretty cool, but I'm not a fan of alcantra (sp?). It's great for something consumable or replaceable, but not so good for long term use. I'd happily replace my M-tec steering wheel with the full-zoot, LED performance wheel, but I'd rather have leather than the pseudo suede alcantra. Same for anything that is subject to wear ... Headliner? Way cool!

It is the same bumper.

The quarters have additional body parts to flare the guards. You can see at the bottom of the Racing bumper that the lip doesn't go to the edge of the fender as there is an extra piece attached on top.

Lip IMO is the same only it is difficult to see the detail as it is painted.

As a synthetic product, Alcantara, if cared for properly, will out last leather.

I hope you can. I'd hydro-dip the front lip and black diffuser bit in carbon and then clear coat it. OEM fit carbon parts

(At the end is a video the M performance exhaust)

The M performance exhaust has much more burbles and pop! Although I do wish it was a bit louder : ). Can't wait to hear what aftermarket will sound like, but the M exhaust sounds great!

Because then people (especially on here) would complain that the car had lights like a 4 series, and that the lights need to be more distictive to differentiate itself.

You have a person here (w3rkn) that complains that the M235i looks like a FWD drive car, yet it has rear wheel flares, giving it a very athletic RWD, sport look.

You have (BimmerEngineer) complaining about the car weighing 80 pounds more, 1/2" thinner wheels (OH GAWD, NO!), 320 hp/320 tq. When the C5 Corvette came out it had 350 hp, and 235 series tire all the around (correct me if I am wrong). Apparently said knows that the torque will not be 332. And even though BMW has stated that the M235i will be quicker on the Ring than the outgoing, limited 1M, said poster complains that the M235i will not be quicker than the 2008 135i, which makes no sense.
Siad poster complains that the engine is different, but then says at least the airbox has been rerouted?

And complaining that the car has no LED corona rings, yet complains that the price increase is 3-4k, which eans if it had LED corona rings, the price would be more

Some people, love to complain. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Hahahaha, nailed it!

I agree 100% that people are going nuts with the complaints. Of course, my complaints are valid

Srsly though, I do find it hard to look at those three rear shots and find the 2-series anything but the least attractive. IMO, it's the narrowness of the rear tails. It gives it too much of an upright appearance, which I'm almost certain is intentional.

BMW likes to protect its up-line models in the appearance department. I will grant, however, that some of the upright appearance is simply due to packaging constraints. The 1-series was always well regarded for it's generous overhead space (for tall drivers). I'm sure the 2-series will be the same. The sleeker appearance is delivered, in large part, by the increase in length.
