Media stirring it again with the 'swipe' bit where it doesn't exist, and getting mixed up with comparing Mercedes constructor points with Max's driving points to make it seem to new on the scene F1 fans that the championship battle is closer.

IMHO the message is quite the opposite: demonstrating the dominance of Verstappen at the wheel of his RB19 this season: so far he pocketed more points than Hamilton and Russell together. If Verstappen manages to keep it that way, Red Bull does not need Perez to score any point this season to still get Red Bull the WCC title - Verstappen is capable of single-handedly fixing that, even if Perez happens to be at some races of zero help for him. He decimates the field. Let's wait and see what happens during the rest of the 2023 season, but the trend doesn't look promising for the rest of the field.

During the Hamilton - Bottas era, Bottas was instrumental for the Hamilton/Mercedes WDC and WCC titles. In 2023, Verstappen blasts the whole field out of the water, including Perez (except for the Jeddah and Baku races). Even to the point that Verstappen currently probably no longer counts the points he pockets, but rather counts the points he loses. P2: losing 8 points instead of gaining 18 points. No Fastest Lap: 1 point lost.

Managed to break his front wing in the slippery Silverstone pitlane though during the qualies ("no grip").
