2016 M235i iDrive Display Delaminating - Looking for an alternative replacement
Hello everyone,
I have a new-to-me M235i that I recently purchased and I've noticed that the iDrive display is delaminating. I am looking for a replacement screen. I've searched the internet thoroughly for an OEM screen, but the only acceptable replacement was $1000. I am looking at third party options and would like to know your experience with them or any recommendations. Specifically, I am looking at this one from "Koason Auto" on amazon. Does anyone have one of these? I don't care to use any of the android features and just want it to replace my delaminating screen. Does anyone know if there is a way to setup this screen to just boot straight to the car's stock iDrive system and basically never show the android screen? I want it to be as unobtrusive as possible, as I have no interest in using the android features. For some addition context, my vehicle is equipped with an 8.8" screen with the 'NBT' iDrive system. Below I will link the screen that I am looking at. I have also attached a photo of my screen, in case you're curious. Thank you in advanced for any advice! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ZTNNHM7Y&psc=1 Regards. |

I had the same issue in my 2016. Tried to buy direct from Koasan and they caused my credit card to get tagged for fraud.
I ended up getting the 10.25 from PEMP on Amazon. Delivered the next day. Install was straight forward, still tweaking settings but overall happy with it. Been installed a little over a week. Currently using with wireless Android Auto. PEMP Android 11 10.25" Blue... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09L4TQ8G8...p_mob_ap_share |

Like the op I have the delaminating screen and would like to replace it. I've tried finding one in a scrapyard, but they all have bubbles, too. I don't care one bit about Android auto or Carplay or any added technology, just want to have a screen without bubbles. So looking for the cheapest possible option. Would this one work?

It's been happening to mine, and I'll most likely buy this one in the next few months.

I did, but I'm still leaning more towards the one I linked. You're able to get android 11 with 6 or 8 GB of RAM, and I didn't option mine out other than increased resolution and built-in apple carplay. Did you end up getting a headunit?

I did a deeper look at the one you linked. I like the upgraded model. Anybody using this unit? Seems to be an updated design compared to what was available a year ago. Thinner bezels, touch screen, and easily accessible SIM and SD card slots. I'm currently leaning towards this model with Android 12 and 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. |

I haven't done anything yet. I don't really care about Android Auto or Carplay or any of that stuff. I just want a screen without bubbles. I tried to find a used, original screen but they are expensive and I can't find one that hasn't already started bubbling.

I replaced the bubbled screen in my 2016 with the AVIN 10.25in screen so I could add cameras and CarPlay. The screen looks nice and was plug-and-play, but I have had myriad issues with the cameras, Android system, and CarPlay -- basically everything I paid extra for. AVIN's customer service is the absolute worst. I can only recommend it if you're not interested in adding any of the features and will just use the factory system. |

I haven’t but it looks pretty good. Not sure how hard the install would be. I’m interested too because my screen is also delaminated in the bottom right corner.

That looks very cool. Wondering how easy the easy installation is. Wiring a junction box while installing a dishwasher last month was the peak of my diy ability.

I finally ordered my unit so I'll give you an install summary once I get it done. One reviewer said the install took him about 30 minutes. I don't expect it to go that easy, but I don't think it will be too bad. Will be glad to get rid of the bubbled screen and my wife is excited to have Carplay.

So, Euro Style Tuning finally responded to me. For some reason their system flagged my order as fraudulent and shut it down. I have now reordered using PayPal (their suggestion). Now we will see if this goes through this time. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town this weekend so installation will have to wait for the following weekend. Guess I've lived with the bubbles this long, what's another week?

I didn’t end up buying one of these screens.. I found an OEM one from a seller in Lithuania on eBay. It was pulled out of a newer 1 series, fit perfect and works as expected.

Looks great. That was my first choice but I couldn't find a screen that hadn't already started bubbling. May I ask how much you paid for that? BMW wants $3300 for a new screen.
