One thing i have always wondered about wireless carplay - As i have Connected+, Remote Services etc. would it interfere with my range, fuel level etc being written back to the app?

Interesting to see there is a solution! I just got a 2018 230i with no Nav or CarPlay; is it possible to have CarPlay added without it being a huge cost?

shawnsheridan steve@codemybimmer

Not sure what other information is needed to make this determination; let me know and I can DM

Count me as another one of Steve @ CodeMyBimmer's happy customers. I have a non-Nav 2015 F22 w/ Harmon Kardon (6/15 build date) and Steve set me up with a new screen and head unit to support wireless Apple CarPlay. After the installation, everything works - parking sensor graphics and sounds even got upgraded. I did have to watch a few different videos on YouTube to figure out how to run the new cable for USB through the console to the arm rest, but that was probably the hardest part.

Along the way, I had multiple questions for Steve, and he was always able to get back to me within a couple hours. It made for a relatively quick and clean installation, especially given that the last time I worked on the interior of a BMW, it was an E36!

Thanks to Steve and the CodeMyBimmer crew!

Car play

You would need at least a 2018 model unfortunately

A 2017 would be on the iDrive 4 variant of the base head unit whereas a 2018+ would have iDrive 6 running on ENTRYNAV2.
I am really new to all this bmw stuff😅
I have a bmw 318i (2018) without navigation.
I don't really know the exact type of the headunit.
But the dealer told me there is a missing item
Which is preventing me from adding carplay.

But I found this on aliexpress.
The seller confirmed to me that this works even if your car does not have navigation in it.

Has anyone tried any of these?
Does it actually work?

Or is there any easier way to add carplay?

I could use some guidance

Hello, My head unit looks the same as the one you posted here. I have a 2018 330i. My HU doesn't have nav, but I pulled it and verified that it has the WLAN port on the back - referencing Steve's post. Can someone point me in the right direction on getting this working? I am new to BMW, but am not new to programming. There are a lot of various posts on this subject, but it looks like this post is what I am looking for.

Thanks.

PS - I am willing to pay for the codes. I don't expect a handout

Hi all, I wanted to share how I got Airplay working with my 2 Series!

What I have:
- ENAVEVO head unit
- SirusXM enabled
- Wifi
- Bluetooth

What I do not have:
- Navigation
- touchscreen
- Wireless charging

What you need:
1. Dash trim tool kit (Click here)

2. ENET Cable (Click Here)

3. Depending on your computer, you may need a ethernet to USB port adaptor (Click Here)

4. Windows based machine with Intel processor (This is important)

Steps:

1. Install Wifi Antenna (plenty of tutorials out there that were super helpful on this - example of antenna here)

2. Got to Bimmer remote website and purchase the following and schedule a time to have it remotely installed. (Click Here)

This site is operated by a forum member Kubax86

All up the process took about 45 min - 1 hour!

I really recommend Kubax86 work, super flexible and helpful! Everything was super smooth!

Once you have that, you'll need someone who can grab the repair kit for your VIN from BMW and program the replacement head unit with your VIN and original FSC codes along with the 143 FSC.

If you need help with that, let me know.
In terms of finding a unit older than your own, is this only when replacing ENTRYNAV2 with another that has the WiFi port, or just the general rule?

Currently have ENTRYNAV, can source ENTRYNAV2 with the WiFi port but this would obviously be from a newer production vehicle.

Is it beneficial to find a HU that had nav working, or will a nav FSC be required anyway?

The Head Unit age requirement is so you can reuse your existing OEM VIN Matching FSC Codes in the Donor Head Unit. It applies only if replacing existing Head Unit with same type Head Unit (e.g. ENTRYNAV2 without WLAN with ENTRYNAV2 with WLAN). It is irrelevant when replacing existing Head Unit with a different type Head Unit (e.g. ENTRYNAV with ENTRYNAV2), as the original FSC Codes cannot be reused on Donor Head Unit. In this case, you would use the Donor FSC Codes along with an Activation Module. If you want NAV, then you need Donor Head Unit with GPS hardware and set of FSC Codes from any Donor VIN with same Head Unit that has factory Navigation.

That’s good to hear. Is it not possible to extract the VIN from the HU itself?

So once the donor VIN, or any other VIN (matching HU) with nav is used with the activation module it’ll work on my car? I have a question below about connected services but assume this is not retained using this method?

Is this the kind of activation module you refer to?

Few other points I had in mind to help keep a track on costs and tasks necessary.

Feel free to PM if that works better.

1.) WiFi adapter/antenna
2.) HU, either ENTRYNAV2 or NBT EVO
3.) TCB?? Does not exist in newer HU, is there an adapter. How would connected services now be handled. E.g remote unlock subscription, or RTTI
4.) Service history, including upcoming services.
5.) Activation module to allow for coding.
6.) I-step upgrade to get full screen CarPlay
7.) USB CarPlay activation (pre/post Istep upgrade?) - does this have to be original fsc from a source, or similar usb activation methods available online.
8.) OABR cable?
9.) voltage converter for older type 8.8”

Does your below quote remain the case?

I have found a Technical pdf document for EntryNav, unlike EntryNav2.

What are the remaining unlabelled ports that I could not make out?

Thanks.

Yes, VIN can be read from HU.

No, that is not the activation module I am talking about. The only one I know to work with ENTRYNAV2 is the one from Custom Retroft I provided link to above.

ENGTRYNAV2 and EVO requires ATM. If car has older TCB, you will loose Telematics.

Activation for ENTRYNAV2 must use Donor OEM FSC Codes and activation module. EVO can be same or use non-OEM car VIN Matching FSC Codes and no activation module.

Full Screen on ENTRYNAV2 support was added to 20-07 firmware.

? Connector is GPS Connection. Your GPS Connection is actually USB2 Connection.
