Roll back to the November 7 (8.4.78.530) version or earlier and everything will work properly again. As much as BMW's lack of Android integration is inexcusable for 2019, this one's on Spotify, not them.

Any instruction on how to reverse the update?
Annoying that Pandora doesn't have the enhanced functionality on Idrive.

Uninstall spotify. Download the .apk for the version you want (I used APK Mirror here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/spotif...8-530-release/. You want the armeabi-v7a version.

Make sure install from unknown sources is turned on and then just open the downloaded file and it will install from there.

We don't have Pandora in Canada so can't really comment.

Do Spotify intend on fixing the issue?

Good question. It's come up on their community forums and the answer is basically a "thanks for letting us know, we've passed it on."

Clearly they've got some kinks to work through. I've had lots of issues with Spotify myself, and it's gotten to the point where I'm just using Bluetooth and don't even bother with it.

*Main menu hangs on "Loading" until you click back and click Menu a second time.
*Takes forever for Spotify to appear as an available app after my phone is connected.
*Album art gets behind and doesn't ever re-sync with current track.
*Randomly stops working completely and requires a hard restart (hold power button for 15 seconds).
*Other times it becomes completely unresponsive while playing music.

I'm always worried that subscriber services like Spotify are more concerned about future developments than maintaining the past, so I'm not optimistic that they'll ever have a real fix in place for an ancient car like my 2016 228i.

Edit: iPhone X user here.

Garage List
I have the same issue for maybe a month now. Spotify app won't connect and when it does, it crashes after a couple of songs. About 2 days ago, my Bluetooth audio/text/call also stopped working. All I've done so far is restart the phone but that didn't do anything. I tried to see if I have any updates pending but software is up to date.

P.S. I have an iPhone

A bit off topic, but do you need one of the paid connected services packages for the Spotify app to actually work?
Mines never worked, possibly due to that?
