DME Bricked?

hey all, i've been haggling with a salvaged m240i that i've been trying to rebuild, and i believe my dme is bricked.

from the gate the car would not start, nor crank and would shut off instantly if you tried to do the regular start procedure (clutch pedal down, push ignition), at first i chalked that up to the fault codes from the accident. i tried reading the codes with a scanner and that brought me nowhere. today i attempted to connect the car to my copy of ista+ and the program couldn't even read basic information such as the production date, mileage, etc.

so does that basically confirm the dme is bricked? and if so, how difficult would it be to buy a used one and recode it?

many thanks!
