Hi ,all
Have anyone tried retrofitting speed limit on your 2 series ? Particularly F series . Any info experience is appreciated I tried bimmercode and activating s few options related to it but to no avail .I have seen it only works with some BMW code or emulator hardware ,but do correct me if I'm wrong . |

The speed limiter is actually located in 2 places in the engine computer (DME in BMWspeak). One is apparently easy to find and change. The other takes some digging.

I did it and it was easy with bimmer code, I'll see if I can find the thread and add the link here. You lose the set button for cruise control as it will activate the LIM function. You can set the cruise speed with the speed selector roller.
Look here for my post on how to do it. Or did you want the speed limit from the road signs on your dash? If so that is a horse of a different color. Last edited by jzeiler4; 09-19-2023 at 09:01 PM.. |

I think the OP may be talking about the function where the car monitors speed limits and warns you if you exceed them by a selectable limit.
I have it on my car, and leave it disabled as it does not really work very well IME. Anyway, not an answer just a comment. |

OK. I had a loner BMW ( think it was a 3 series) one time and it would flash the 35 MPH sign on the dash if I exceeded the limit. I found it annoying and so glad my M240 does not have that feature.

Yes I want the one that shows I don't care if it warns me or not it's not full digital dash so heck how annoying can it be ? Hooray for analog dials .And for local roads or for some heavy footed driving it is literally a tick on Idrive that I can untick at any point I managed to get that bit coded in . It's just I have been traveling out of my normal routes a lot and found myself wondering way too often wait what was the last speed limit sign ?
I have managed to code in the bit that you can cycle to with BC but as seen online it ain't doing anything so I ordered an emulator for it it is coming from china to delivery date 3rd-19th of October so that's gonna be a while More than happy to share experiences with it and how it looks if anyone is interested in future |

It uses the front facing cameras to watch for speed signs. I don't know if it combines that with online mapping based data in any way or not. On mine it often does not know the correct speed limit, and the wrong one makes it pointless and annoying. Look forward to you sharing your experience though.

Well it has arrived been installed and testdriven for a bit .
Overall I actually love it .It does not use camera that already exist on my car only use GPS maps by the looks of it so data is very reliant on maps being up to date so no roadworks updates on speed . Another downside as it was cheap chinesium unit it shows km/h at three bottom of it but the actual number is correct so minor gripe . Why I love it is it simply is there the number shows up nicely at the bottom of instrument cluster and there is 0 intrusions regardless of the speed you do (not that any of us would go over speed limit we are sensible drivers right ? ) no red light no flashed nothing it simply shows the sign . And the physical install was 10min no wire splicing just plug and play . Coding was done with bimercode easy as well . Any questions on this please go ahead I can share photos of how it looks or give guidance on install process of needed |

Glad you got it to work. I don't use it on my 240 but my wife's Honda has it. I hope the BMW version is a little more selective than hers, though. It's a little jarring to be driving down the freeway at 75 or so and to suddenly see "Speed Limit 35 mph" pop up on the dash (because you just passed Exit #35).

Mine has never mis read a speed limit sign or mistaken an exit sign for a speed limit. It does not read the fine print on school zone signs that are time of day dependant, so I do get those 35 MPH indications in a 50 zone.
