M Performance Exhaust Mod Question
Has any one attempted to make their own m performance exhaust by cutting their own exhaust open and trying to either cut the perforated pipe and weld in straight pipe? I've seen it done on e9X 335i and was going to attempt it on my old 335i but never got the chance. Any body here have success in trying to do so?

Speaking from the N55 car standpoint, and i'm sure it's no different for you:
The mufflers themselves are actually different. Regular Exhaust are sort of triangular in shape, whereas the MPE's are cylindrical. Sure you can cut open a stock exhaust and gut the baffling - but in the end, no matter what you do, the shapes of the cans are different and to some degree that will affect acoustics. Not a sound/acoustics person so I can't comment further. MPE's are getting dirt cheap lately- just hold out and the right one will come by if that's your hesitation. Cheers. |
