Thread revival: does this work for the 8.8 screen or just the 6.5?

i'm looking to do something similar, but i have found this type of box that allows carplay and android auto integration. has anyone had experience with it? the listed resolution is
800x480 which is lower than the 1280x480 resolution of the 8.8 inch navi screen.

I'm planning to buy the IW06B-N23 unit to add a back up camera to my 228i, but has anyone found a good and reliable miracast device for Androids on the 6.5" screen? It seems like every device listed in this thread has some problem with wireless casting after a while.

So I ended up ordering the IW06B-N23 last month and finally got around to installing it. I have everything wired up and went to test it out. I currently only have a reverse camera hooked up to it. When I put the car in reverse, nothing happens. I tired cycling through the av modes thinking it might be the camera's problem and that did nothing too. Thinking it might be a faulty included HDMI cable, I swapped it for another and still nothing. I'm pretty sure I have it wired up correctly. I've attached some pics of the install as it sits. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Edit: Closing off my own post
I figured out what was wrong. I emailed indiworkshop regarding my problem and they were fast to respond. They asked that I try a few troubleshooting step, but the most helpful was regarding the power/status LED. There is no visible LED on the box, nor was there any mention of a power/status LED in the manual/documentations so I didn't realize there was one. There actually is one inside the body of the unit. If the unit is operating normally, the LED should be lit on a steady state (or flickering at a rapid frequency). Mine was blinking at a slow rate. Indiworkshop support mentioned that if the LED was blinking slowly, this is a CANBUS comms issue.

I decided to probe the positap with pins 9 and 11 (CANBUS high and low) for continuity. Neither pins registered. Taking a closer look at the wiring harness, I discovered that there is ANOTHER set of yellow/red and yellow/brown wires within the loom. Those were the ones connected to pins 9 and 11. After re-tapping to those, the unit worked.

Mirror link with wifi does not work. Also work with a few suppliers and ask questions.

I researched a few and discover these products are more hype and functional.

Is still not working for me. Hard wiring may work.

Nice installation! Yeah that is a rat's nest of wires, isn't it?

I never did get my extra hdmi port working with this setup. This weekend, we will see whether actiontec will solve the classic screen mirroring problem. Pictures to follow!

I tried HDMI mirroring the other day (wired) and the image was only using half the screen with big black bars above and below the display. Still not sure if that's because of my phone or the unit (upgraded from the 6.5 screen to 8.8). The unit works fine when not in HDMI mode. Going to hook a chromecast up to it later to test the HDMI connectivity.

Pmed you. Will this handle a front camera as well? How about android auto? Ideally I want all 3, front cam, rear cam, android auto. My 235i has the nav professional and a prod month of 04/16.

Yes to front and back camera. Yes to Android Auto so long as you use a HDMI screen mirroring dongle.

You will have to experiment with the dip switches to make sure it does the correct screen resolution.
