The transmission mount I'm assuming ? Yes they said they would match Indie shop estimate. Now I don't know if all BMW dealers would, and wouldn't go quoting mine...I'm having other work done by them, but its apart of package deal.

Anything over 2.5 hours would be high IMO, based on talking to a few other shops.

I think it took 3-4 hours. I’ve known the shop for so long that I don’t ask for a detailed bill. The cost was $564, which I’m sure will surprise some of you, but the shop is in a high cost area. Labor rates are high here.

I'm not sure I'll be going to the dealer to have this done; ordinarily, it would be out of the question unless getting rid of excess cash was a secondary consideration. I prefer shops where I can watch the work being done and where I can speak directly with the person doing the work.

What are the labor rates where you are? Mine are: independent - $100; dealer - $160.

Nor would I and had a "speed" shop do my downpipe @ $115/hr. But after meeting with service guy at BMW for multiple things (including popping on my CF mirror caps for free) and chatting, he had the head/lead tech take my car back, put it up on rack, and said yep... they could match the $287.50. (normal rates are $115 Indie and $140 BMW - they just went up from $130)

There are specialty speed shops that know BMW, but I'm hoping in this case, their lead mechanic knows as much or more...as long as I can match price. (and I have CPO and this won't cause any issues as they are doing work)

This independent shop is around $140/hour (I think). They just raised their rates, so it could be higher.

The throws of the Rogue are super short and there is very little play in the mechanism. There is also very little NVH. This was totally worth it. And that's after I already paid to install the UUC 3 years ago. If I bought a 911 and the shifter felt like the rogue, I would be thrilled. It's that good.
I think you're the first one with one installed (other than me of course haha). I'm so happy you feel that way about it! It really is incredible and I'm excited for everyone else to get theirs installed.

You have to remove the trans mounts to install the shifter anyway, so the price shouldn't change with the additional mounts.

I've yet to look at the instructions, so I didn't realize that - thanks.

What did the trans mounts do for you (assuming you installed a set)?

The main thing that I noticed was less movement in the shifter while getting on and off the gas heavily. You also notice less feeling of the drivetrain "unloading" while shifting.

They are still an isolated design, like stock, so they don't add any nvh.

Some thoughts comparing the rogue shifter to the stock shifter and the UUC SSK: (1) the rogue is very stout and robust; the stock shifter is flimsy by comparison; the UUC is better but not on par with the rogue; (2) the rogue’s throws are dramatically shorter than stock and very slightly shorter than the UUC’s; (3) the rogue has less NVH than the UUC but slightly more than stock; (4) the rogue is much less notchy than stock but about the same as the UUC.

Are the new transmission mounts required? I'd trade off a bit of "stoutness" for no increase in NVH, assuming they are the cause.

It’s important to understand that any SSK will increase NVH as a necessary by-product of making the shifter more precise, direct, less notchy, etc. The rogue has very little NVH, but it’s always going to be more than the stock shifter, which is designed to be isolated, but ends up being mushy and imprecise. Trust me, you will not mind the very slight increase in vibration and noise associated with the rogue.

Not here, and I'm not sure when I'm going to get around to it.

At present, I've got Dinan's CAI, Rogue's SSK, and BMW's M Performance Brake Kit waiting to be installed. Local case rates will have to be going down instead of up before I take it to the shop. Heck, I've still got winter tires on the car – 'cause when you don't drive it, it doesn't matter which shoes it has on!

Happy to report a completed install over the weekend on my 235i. Big thanks to the main man himself, K8_M235I, for his awesome willingness to help out, even if my questions were dumb or repetitive lol. In all honesty, the install is not horribly challenging or hard. It looks daunting but I knocked it out in 3-4 hours max with simple hand tools, car on stands.

For reference, I am using the M-perf shift knob and not the oem one. I can tell you as soon as I made that first 1-2 shift, I knew this kit was something special. Like everyone who has already done the install, this IS how the manual cars should have been made from the factory. The feel is flawless too, transmission mounts are perfectly matched for this kit. I could not detect any negative noise or vibrations on my way to work today, only quick short throws.

I could go on and on about how great it is, it's that good. Everyone that bought this kit is in for quite a treat when you get it installed and take that first drive.

Anyway, I just want to say thanks again to K8M235I and Rogue for making this a reality. This is what forums are all about, people helping people achieve a similar goal.

You're welcome!

Anyone with questions feel free to reach out, even if your shop has questions they can talk to me too!

I installed one of the group buy shifters yesterday on my friends m235. Definitely much quicker the second time!

It was also very cool to see a kit in "production" form. I felt very proud.

I made sure to drive the car before the install so I could remember what oem feels like and put the improvement into perspective again.
