M2 to M240 ?
Has anyone sold their M2 and went to M240?
I bought a 2018 M2 with MPE and 6MT, and I didn’t like it. So I gave to my son and took his 335is. Now I am thinking about trading in the 335 for a M240. The reason for my dislike of the M2: sounds awful (inside while driving), MPG is poor, seating position is uncomfortable. I had the opportunity to drive the M240 for few days a year ago and it felt like a great car, quieter and better MPG. I was just wondering what previous M2 owner thought of the long term ownership of M240. |

The 2016-2018 M2s have the same exact seats as the M240. The MPE on the M2 was much of the reason why your M2 was loud. The non-MPE equipped M2 is a bit quieter. The M240 without the MPE will be slightly quieter in terms of exhaust noise. The M240 has a softer suspension and narrower tires and wheels which makes it ride softer and reduces noise. The lack of solid rear subframe bushings in the M240 will also reduce noise slightly.

Do the M2's have the ASD "feature" that pipes "enhanced(fake)" engine noise through the speakers?
My '19 M240 has it and I coded it off for a quieter cabin. It can also be deleted with an aftermarket harness. Something to consider when evaluating the M2 and the 240.

About the drone, at least on the M2C I heard the opposite: drone goes away after ASD is coded off. This is my hope. |

I was looking at the MPE for mine and I don't want much drone if I can avoid it. |

I found it very easy to code off with the BimmerCode app. The cabin is significantly quieter. But I may turn it back on at some point because, you know, fake race car✌️

I loved the M2 but since it's my daily I might actually like my m235i more. Once I did the flash tune I think it was already faster than my stock m2 was. I mean when you think about it, it's the exact same motor and turbo. ZF8 is butter smooth and it's quiet and comfy. No regrets so far. Half the price too. If I could find a similar price M2 with three pedals I'd switch, but they're still around $40k while you can get an immaculate m235i for $25k+. |

There is no drone on an M2 with the ASD bypass harness.

A couple of points to clarify... M2 interior sound and volume is fairly dramatically different than M235i/M240i and M2 stock exhaust is slightly louder than 235/240 with MPE. Neither cause drone.
M2 is not for everyone and M240i is just as quick in a straight line. For daily driver, most people can be satisfied by a 240 but many of us are ridiculous and want our hair on fire while commuting in a full M car. |

I had an M235i before I had my M2. It was a quieter car and more comfortable/relaxing ride. The seating position felt the same as the M2 IMHO, but maybe they changed something in the M240.
I have the MPE on my M2 and compared to the M235i with the MPE, it is quite loud, but I like it. It's not for everyone. The stock exhaust on the M335i was quiet. Sandwiched in between the BMW's I had a Focus RS. It was on the other end of the spectrum as far as comfort, but a really fun car. The M2 is a nice blend of my two previous cars and just right for me. Seems like you really liked the M240i, and should go for it. I used to spend a lot of time on this section of the forums, and still like the regular 2 series a lot. They're all great cars, and IMO you should get what your comfortable with. |

I rented and M2 and loved it. But I hated the road noise, could barely have a conversation at highway speeds. Not the exhaust or engine, but the road roar, wind, tires, all that. Besides that, I LOVED how it drove. So much that I went out and bought an M235i hoping it would be a tamer, more civilized version.
Its exactly that. Quieter, softer, much easier to live with, luxurious when I want and tons of fun as well. I only wish it had the M2's fenders, that makes the look of these cars. Without them, the 2-series looks a bit weak to me. |

M240i here and looking to maybe go the other way to a M2, but not until the next generation car arrives with a S58 engine. Love my B58 powered car and can't imagine going backwards in engine technology at this point, despite how tempting the M2 Competition has been since its release. I only wish my car was louder from the driver's seat, but in terms of ride comfort, it's spot-on. I'm really hoping the next generation M2 will come with adaptive suspension as standard so that I can have my cake and eat it too.
