Factory Limited Slip Differentials from other cars
Just wondering if anyone has retro fitted an older LSD from a 335i or 135i into a m235i?
I found this page in my search for a more cost effective alternative: https://www.difflab.com.au/pages/bmw-differential-types |

I guess a better question would be how hard would it be to install an M2 diff into a M235i?
I think its plug and play besides the electric servo which engages the clutches. Wouldn't it be possible to simply wire a switch to the servo turning it on or off in the cabin? Maybe a relay using the exhaust valve as the trigger to turn the diff on when you are in sport mode? |

Interested in this. Not sure about other cars but I found the Mfactory differential for $1000 (https://x-ph.com/bmw-mfactory-helica...-differential/)
The thing is no one is running this on their m235i and the lack of popularity and reviews are what worries me.

Won't work. The F series cars use axles that slide into the diff and held in with circlips whereas the older cars use axle stubs in the diff and the axles bolt to the hub. A ton of money would be spent making it work.
The M2 eLSD can likely be fitted but you need the electronics to get to to work. You'd likely need to use M2 axles which are thicker thus requiring a total reworking of the hubs, brakes, etc etc. Get the factory LSD. It's a VERY high quality clutch based LSD and perfectly matched for street and light track duty plus it's very affordable. |

Thanks for the info
Didn't realize the axles were completely different. I knew they required a special tool just to be removed, but if it's the entire assembly including hubs and brakes that needs to be changed you are right the factory LSD is definitely the way to go. |
