I've had the car for a week now and I'm just over 800 miles... Mostly highway... What I can't believe is the brake dust... The car will stop on a dime with these M brakes, but the dust is out of control.

Anyone got recommendations on new pads that won't generate so much dust?

I have the M Perf set up on my 328i (same as the M Brakes on the 2'er but mine have larger rotors up front) and my dusting was a freaking nightmare after just a few miles of driving. I'm switching to the OEM M3/M4 pads as they actually have a tad more initial bite and dust way less. I've also heard good things bout the brand Power Stop Z23 pads that dust 99% less than M Performance pads.

I thought the M3/M4 pads were larger because they had larger rotors? Am I mistaken?

I believe the 370mm front rotors are the minimum size for the M3 pads.

That's what I thought.. I'm pretty sure the M brakes that come with the Track Handling Package are only 340mm. Looks like Z23 pad for me...

Thanks!

Guys, I read this thread front and back and haven't been able to get a consensus on what's a good "street" pad but something that can be used for track days.

My dilemma - recently, my pads have lost the bite they had when they were new. I've only got 15K on the car but the driving is in mixed conditions.

I know a lot of folks like the Yellowstuffs, but I had two bad experiences with the EBC products and just will not go back.

I'm between these:

Ferodo DS2500:
http://www.hpashop.com/Ferodo-F80-F8...DS2500-F8X.htm

PFCs:
http://www.hpashop.com/Performance-F...-PFC-08-11.htm

Hawk DTC-60 (I used to have Hawk HT-10s on my Evo X on the street and loved them):
http://www.hpashop.com/Hawk-DTC-60-D...awk-DTC-60.htm

I would've included the Porterfields, but they do not make them for the M235i, even though it is listed. Have them on my wife's X3 and they're better than stock but that's about it.

Thanks!

The pfc-08s are a track only pad. There is no way you will use these on the street. They are way too loud. Trust me. Police might ticket you they are so loud.
They will work wonders on track, but be prepared to swap them. Brake sensors will not work with these pads unless u spend some time grinding.

The Ferodos say they don't work with a brake pad sensor, so for street use, thats a big fail.

DTC-60s are a track pad, and say they have a low initial bite, not good for those unexpected stops on the street.

At the end of the day, just try one and let us know. I still think yellowstuffs are your best option for a street pad. Reality is, you need a real track pad for the track, and a great pad for the street that doesn't get too loud which yellowstuffs are. Try the StopTech Street Performance pads instead and buy a dedicated set of track pads.

if you read through the thread and list, there are multiple choices that are a street/ light track pad option.

I got the Yellowstuff and they are pretty good for both street and track... at least for the way I drive....

Even the stock pads were fine for me on the track but the yellow seem more consistent and progressive....

The stoptech is probably something in between the stock pads and the yellowstuff...

pikcachu Thanks! I came across these from bryan_f22 spreadsheet. Seems to be a good compromise? Thoughts?

I'll be buying the m4 pads front and rear. I'm hoping they will be able to withstand more abuse on the track than standard pads but be able to be used on the road. It was between them and the DS2500 but using oem wear sensors satisfies my OCD

I'm going to second this. I've had the EBC Yellow's on open track and they worked fine for me. They will suffice as an occasional track (HPDE) pad and they have acceptable street manners (minus the brake dust and cold, low speed squeaking).

However, if you are doing anything other than HPDE (TT or higher), you definitely need a dedicated track pad that cannot be used on the street.

DS2500 is a good choice for street and HPDE or light track days.

What mods have to be done to accept the wear sensor?

How do they compare to the Hawk Street Race pads?

Thanks!

I wouldn't waste your money.. my friend has had a horrible experience with the brakes on his M4. Pads fade as soon as you heat them up, not much different than our cars. First thing he did is put EBC yellows for daily use and says it was night and day. I'll be doing the same for street use, and PFC's for the track.

Another vote for the PFC08s. Used them for the first time at Road America this week and brakes were excellent in 85 degree weather with repeated stops from 130+ in turns 1, 5, and 12. Never had any issues.

Do the ferodo 2500 work with the brake pad sensors? If not, is it an issue to disconnect the pad sensors and not throw warning lights?
