Iphone 8 won't charge from USB but 6s and Xr will?

I upgraded from an Iphone 6s to an 8 and found the new phone will not charge from the USB port. The BMW Apps work fine. I find this odd since there is no issue with the 6s or my wife's new Xr. Both phones display the lightning bolt and turn the battery green.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Are you using the same cable for all the phones? Have you tried rebooting the phone? Also, are you on the newest iOS update?

Try unlocking your phone and then connecting it.

Any Iphone 8 users out there that are successfully charging with the USB port. I tried the two recommendations and was unsuccessful. I have reconfirmed that the new Xr does charge. Very frustrating!

I have the same issue.

iPhone 8, most up to date firmware, OEM Apple cord.

When I first plug the phone into the centre glove USB port, it starts to charge then it quits. Won't charge on apple car play or on bmw iDrive.

Unfortunately don't have another Apple product to test with.

I solved the issue by using a cigarette lighter usb charger. It is only 2.4a, 5v but worked fine when the phone was off. When the phone is on it charges but very slowly.

Odd thing is my wife's Xr is fine. Apple must have changed the technology between the 6s, 8 and Xr.

I bought a $10 charger on Amazon.

Not sure what changed but my iPhone 8 started charging again properly from the centre console USB port. Same cable and phone; firmware version 12.1.4
