Exclamation Testing prototype - TurboParts Canada Stg2 **Updated w/pics**

Hey guys. Long time reader. But haven’t posted much.
I intend on changing that with this first thread

I wanted to let everyone know all about the new turbo option for the n55, from TPC.
I’ve been working closely with the guys at ProtuningFreaks / HCP & Turbo Parts Canada over the winter, and into the spring.
We now have a prototype turbo installed in my 2015 BMW M235 I (track edition) time attack / show car. (I will do another "Build" thread separately)
Street logs have been made, and things are looking good so far.
I will be posting up information and photos here, additionally you can follow me on Instagram @theyoungcarmody

https://www.protuningfreaks.com
https://www.turbopartscanada.ca
https://11tenths.ca

Dyno testing will begin Thursday June 11 @11tenthsracecraft, in toronto ontario.

What’s been done to the turbo you ask?
- upgraded compressor wheels
- hi speed balancing
- custom machining of OEM housing
- upgraded bearings in the center cartridge

Notes:
- When we re-installed the prototype turbo back into the car, we made sure to use all brand new OEM gaskets and clamps.
- gfb dv+ installed
- n54Tuning DP
- FBO
- Custom oil cooling system and ducting
- BM3

Round 1 dyno test - boost leaks and EWG needs adjustment.

How does this turbo compare to having the bigger upgraded Dinan turbo installed?

Pretty low tbh, is this more of a stage 1/dinan turbo?

This is a stage 2, more in line with the options from Pure and Vargas

The numbers are low this first run because we found some issues, that have now been fixed.
I am doing a roll racing event this weekend to get more BM3 and Draggy logs.
I hope to get back on the Dyno the follwing week.

Issues we had to fix:
1. Boost leak
- The ER charge pipes were not seated well on the csf intercooler. The slots on the charge pipe needed to be filed slightly so that we could get the oem e-clips to properly seat and lock onto the intercooler. **FIXED**

2. High Duty Cycle
- A new actuator was installed on my turbo when it was upgraded.
Using ISTA, we found that the arm length needs to be adjusted as it is too short. This is why we had lower then expected boost levels, with higher then expected duty cycle.

Question - what happens if you set the arm length longer than normal? What happens if you do it on a stock turbo?

It doesn’t really matter if it’s longer or shorter. It needs to be within .5 mm of the correct length....which is measured and confirmed in ISTA software.

There’s no reason to make any adjustment unless you have replaced the wastegate actuator, or using a upgraded turbo with a new actuator (Like I did) that will need to be calibrated to your car.

Hope that helps clarify things
