I now have the Full Dinan S1 packing including the mid-pipe and Dinan exhaust. I have yet to dyno that, however I fully trust Dinan's claims of 6hp and 5tq.

Not trying to be a jerk, just informative, but do you mean Stage 1 tune? In Dinan terms S1 means something else, which hasn't been released for the B58. Here is an example in the M235i:

I also have the lowering springs and ride quality kit. I didn't mention the springs because they don't result in any power change. I was referring to strictly what impacts the dyno numbers. Per Dinan I have the S1 kit and Dinan Badge. They have not updated their website yet.

So S1 will be Stage 1 tune not Stage 2 with CAI? Interesting since it was Stage 2 on M235j. I have the same kit minus the exhaust.

they are still working on the stage 2 and intake, you'll have to wait and see once Dinan makes the announcement. I am also eagerly awaiting what the Stage 2 tune and Intake will unlock for the M240i.

Interestingly enough the B58 makes significantly better numbers with just a Tune than the outgoing M235i with a tune and bolt ons. The B58 is a beast.

Got the Dinantronics ECU yesterday - I installed it today -took the car for a short drive and wow is it different - it's definitely got more power everywhere. Very smooth and no codes post install before starting - no codes after the short drive. Mildly curious how much more boost this thing tells the car to output.

I would assume if I wired it wrongly - that there would be codes, the car wouldn't run and feel like a rocketship. I'm just blown away by how much this has changed the way the motor feels.

More power everywhere is a good way to describe it. Even comfort mode has a lot more going on. On my early morning commute, I would occasionally be able to have a few WOT moments. Now, this thing builds speed so fast, I can't go wide open at the same spots or I'll build too much speed or freak out the traction control. Straight line passing on the freeway makes me laugh. 60-90mph happens so fast when you stomp on it to get around someone.

Biggest thing is how smooth and usable the car remains even though it now goes all the way to 11. There's no sudden rise or bang of power or boost. It's just there the whole time in one smooth power band. It's been almost 2 weeks for me, and I've yet to have one negative thing to say. No codes at all. I've given it a good run in all modes and it's performed great in all of them.

I completely concur. Comfort feels so much crisper now, there is no need to downshift to 4th for a hard pass on the highway, 5th is fine lol, and definitely less of a need to go WOT, I can see having to learn to modulate the throttle in wet weather especially with lane changes. Definitely puts the car in a different league than stock, yet so smooth.

Got to see the prototype Dinan B58 CAI on their 340i today at Legends of the Autobahn in Monterey. The guys said we should see that and the Stage 2 tune by the end of the year. They are not sure how much of it will be CF as an air box only in CF will bring the price point down quite a bit.

Also, heard the cold start on that car which had the full cat back Dinan exhaust, and it sounded great. Compared to my midpipe only modded M240i it was a hair deeper and had a little less rasp to it. Worth the extra $1400? I'm not sure.

Glad to hear the positive consensus. I have to agree, that finding a place to actually use the power the tune provides has been problematic. Much like it was when I had the C7 Corvette. 1/2-2/3 throttle is all I need to get me quickly where I want to be in traffic.

Actually not a bad problem to have....................

Any 1/4 mile numbers? Big drop in fuel economy?

I've only lost about .1 to .2mpg on my daily commutes over the past few weeks. Mostly because of a little extra spirited driving to play with the increased performance. At normal cruising speeds I doubt there's any loss at all.

I don't have any 0-60 or 1/4mile numbers, nor have I seen any, but I would guess about .2-.3 seconds improvement 0-60 and maybe similar to .5 sec in the 1/4.

i have the stage 1 tune and i've been toying with getting the full dinan exhaust - which is 3200 installed up here in canada. would you say it the exhaust makes a significant difference in sound/feeling? i love the car, performance-wise but tbh - i feel it's a little conservative in sound/stance. any thought/input here would be much appreciated! then im just the handling package away from the badge too...

does it make a difference on where you purchase the elite?

QQ...

Will be planning on purchasing the elite and I've read this thread and others and see the unit being purchased at different vendors/dealers. I plan on doing the installation myself and was wondering if there is a benefit to purchasing directly via Dinan or one of the great vendors on this board.

TIA

Contact one of the Dinan vendors on this board. They will give you better pricing than what's on Dinan's website. There should be no added benefit to purchasing directly from Dinan vs. one of the official vendors, the warranty is the same.

I'm considering replacing my Dinan Sport with the Elite, when the Stage 2 package is available.
Question for our Dinan_Engineering rep:
Is the new car matching warranty dependent on the unit being installed by an authorized dealer, or is it also valid if I purchase it direct from Dinan and install it myself?
Thanks.

Peter, I believe coverage is the same regardless. Just if your BMW dealership does it, they will act as a go-between for you (since they installed it), and have some skin in the game.

If mine should ever throw a CEL (which so far has been flawless), I'll bring it back to my BMW service center for a check up and resolution. If it's a Dinan issue, they will do all the coordination for me.

For those who installed this on a leased car, if you don't plan on purchasing the car after your lease is over would you just get it uninstalled and sell it or is that not going to be worth the effort?

My car is a lease - I installed the Dinan Elite - IF I don't keep the car I'll uninstall it. I may jump to the M2 at the end of the lease or I might keep this car.. it's all up in the air.
