I recently installed the Fabspeed sportcat and it is a noticeable improvement over the stock DP.

Sounds a hair louder than stock, I barely noticed a difference. Where you will notice a difference is when you let off the gas above 3k rpm and you get the pops and gurgles you don't get with the stock DP.

Improved throttle response.

Car pulls harder all through the range, it is noticed/appreciated more in the mid to upper range.

Smooth. I also have a Jb4 and it really seemed to smooth things out throughout the range. Car pull and runs perfect if your on it or not.

No funky smells.

I had the shifteck catless DP before this and the fabspeed catted feels as good, if not better when combined with the JB4.

I made the same mistake thats all. just triple check before you go ahead and fit
Do you know if this will fit on a 09/2013 built M135? If not, which other catted DP would?

Did you get any CEL issue when fitting to your M135?.

Cheers

Thanks for the input! I am ordering my Fabspeed catted sport dp next week and will be doing a writeup and review as well. I am definitely wanting more punch and pull in 3rd and 4th so really looking forward to this as well the sound paired with MPE.

Looking forward to the write up, it is going to sound fantastic paired with the MPE, you will notice more punch from 1st gear on.

I just got back from another spirited run and this DP a very nice compliment. This was the missing link for me, car has never felt stronger or smoother. Not to mention my service department is ok with this DP which means I don't have to take it off for service.

I'm paired up with a JB4 so I won't see a CEL. JB4 or Active Autowerks needs to be your next mod, the combination takes the car to the next level.

I'm quite pleased with the results I got. The dyno graphs they have on their website for the catted vs catless show little difference between the two, which is exactly what I felt. Interestingly the catted appears to have a slight advantage in the upper range.

Both are good choices. Roman at ESS is pretty good at answering any questions you may have.

Awesome video.
Have a few questions though.
1) Will installing a catted downpipe with no tune affect the engine in anyway? rich/lean AF? over boost?
2) It is noted that most catted downpipe may turn on the CEL, except the HJS euro6 one since it is emission compliant. How come the Fabspeed one doesn't?
3) Also, on the Fabspeed website, it mentions that their warrantee on the catted DP will not be covered if the car is driven on track. Why? Is it fragile?
Thanks in advance

1.) Your engine can compensate for the modifications and you should not worry about A/F ratios and over-boosting. A tune does, however, allow you to optimize the various parameters to take full advantage of any existing modifications.

2.) We utilize a 200-cell count cat versus their 300-cell count. While there is a small chance of triggering a CEL, the Fabspeed downpipe passes visual inspection tests, limits foul smells from the exhaust, and is safer than catless downpipes without a tune. Both downpipes in question utilize high-quality HJS catalyst cores, but the Fabspeed product is more performance oriented.

3.) HJS cats are extremely stout, but any catalyst can only withstand so much abuse. Cat cores are designed to be used under normal driving conditions. When a car is on a racetrack, it frequently spends a lot more time in higher RPM's and at higher loads than on the street. This sustained thermal abuse puts a lot of heat-induced stress on the catalytic converter cores, and in some extreme instances, can cause premature failure. Additionally, track cars often run some form of leaded race gas which is very detrimental to the wash coating on the cat cores. Long story short, if the cats are used in a manner for which they weren't designed to be used, then we can't guarantee their longevity.

That said, we have had plenty of customers use their Fabspeed Sport Cat-equipped vehicles for driver's education events, etc. without any kind of issues whatsoever. The warranty clause is a legal technicality, and in no way should be construed as an indication of weak or fragile design. In most cases, the HJS cats that we use in our products are actually stronger, more robust, and longer-lasting than their OEM counterparts.

Hi there Travis. Thanks for the prompt and detailed reply!
One more question, does this catted downpipe include new clamps for installation? Or just use the stock clamps? I read on another thread that once the stock clamps are removed, reusing the stock clamps may cause leaks?

On another note, what exactly causes the CEL to turn on? Is it because the sensors detect higher levels of the unwanted gas?

Thanks!

As I wrote in my review of HJS 90 81 2010 EU6 N55 F2x/F3x Catted Downpipe, you should change clamps and gaskets.

Turbo clamp because BMW indicates to change it each time (low tightening torque and exposed to lots of heat).

Exhaust clamp because gasket is integrated in the clamp so that it's very difficult not to damage it when removing it from stock downpipe.

I've listed in above-mentioned thread that all clamps and gaskets parts that must be changed to have a trouble free install:

So just order to your local BMW dealer clamps and gaskets in order not to have any leak:
  • Downpipe to turbo V-Clamp:
    BMW Ref: 1x 18 30 7 606 136 (20€).
    Tightening torque: 13 Nm.
BMW indicates in ISTA to replace it each time.

  • Downpipe to turbo Gasket ring:
    BMW Ref: 1x 18 30 7 581 970 (15€).

  • Downpipe to exhaust V-Clamp:
    BMW Ref: 1x 18 30 7 620 349 (15€).
    Tightening torque: 30 Nm.
To my mind, needed to be changed because the seal part of clamp is damaged when removed from OEM downpipe.

  • Downpipe bolts/nuts on its holder:
    Tightening torque: 28 Nm.

  • Exhaust on aluminium holder:
    Tightening torque: 28 Nm.

  • Lambda probes on downpipe:
    Tightening torque: 50 Nm.

It's a 50€/USD ticket compared to 1150€/USD downpipe cost...

You're welcome, we're always here to help.

We do not include replacement clamps. Some people choose to reuse the OEM clamps, while others may source new ones. We did not want to add cost to the downpipes for new clamps if they were not wanted. The majority of our customers have reused the stock clamps. We advise inspecting the condition of the clamps if you plan on reusing them.

There are several reasons, the most common being slow sensor response or excessive gases.

To Travis - Fabspeed

Are you guarantee that your sport cat downpipe will not trigger CEL on stock car / no tune car?
If yes, will it CEL free forever? Cause I'm not planning to tune the car.

Hello everyone,
I own a M235i 2015 and it's equip with the Dinan Stage II, Dinan Cold Air Intake, Dinan highflow exhaust, Go Fast Bits Diverter Valve + and just had the Fabspeed HighFlow Downpipe. My question is, two days after I got the downpipe install at my BMW dealer, the check engine light turn on ! I was under the impression that these kind of Downpipe were design to not turn any lights on ! Any anwser for me ?
Thanks.

Can you try delete the CEL with Dinan Stg2?
JB4 auto delete CEL.

Maybe O2 sensor damage when you install the DP.

You need to find out what the error code is to confirm it is related to DP. Code reader would come in handy. Nice configuration, how does car feel?

I will probably buy the Dinan Autolink AL319 Scan Tool to find out where it come from and to delete the cel. The car is a monster, according to the specs of Dinan and Fabspeed, I should be around 403HP / 491LB-FT. It deffinetly feel like it and I cannot complain so far ! I was also not happy with the trottle lag in the beginning and I can say that with the Fabspeed downpipe and the DV+, it's much better. I just need to get that light OFF !
