remote control low battery warning

I received the dash pop-up last week about changing remote control battery. Everything works fine, but I assume it's just passed the threshold. I had to order the 2450 lithium cell, so swapped with my 2nd (never used) fob battery -- still had the message.

The new batteries arrived yesterday, and I replaced on both fobs -- but the car STILL says low battery. The are comfort access, so should not need any reprogramming. I searched forums already, but can't find if the code needs a reset. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Did you try holding the fob close to the steering wheel "hold key here" sensor?

Yep, I did. Didn't know if maybe it took a couple ignition starts to cycle and clear. I did see about holding the unlock, then hitting lock x3 quickly on the fob... maybe that will help.

Otherwise, it's new batteries (again)....

What brand are the new batteries? I'd wait to see what happens after a week or so of use.

Name brand Duracell. I'll give it some time, I just panic every time I see any BMW warning triangle

Knowing there is nothing to reprogram or reset, it must just be something simple. Thanks!

Duracell batteries are now made by Varta, the German battery company. So, I think the new batteries are fine. Again I'd drive the car for a week and see if the warning goes away.

Curious what the battery life in the FOB typically is. I received the warning in April and replaced the battery, just got another warning for the same fob yesterday. I would think battery should last longer than 6 months. Car is not driven daily either.
Thx, Don

The battery in one of my fobs for my 2018 was replaced by the dealer when I took my car in for its annual service in 2021 even though there was no low battery warning. The other fob did get a warning a few months later. Overall, it looks like the batteries seem to last about 3 years for me.

I’ve done one replacement of the remote batteries on our 2017 car, about 3 years from delivery, too.

Old stock or batteries of unknown quality could be a cause of a short battery life.
