To those that added sound deadening sheets, do I need to cover the whole inside panel, etc.... or can i just apply like 4 sq.ft of it on the panel behind the speaker? How much coverage for a minimal install.

Has anyone tried using this for the rear? I've never heard of the brand until today. Comes w/ a crossover box and I have no clue if that's a good thing.... or not. I can get these locally. or Audison.

Disconnecting middle speaker in M240
Hello!
Following the popular advice, I have decided to disconnect the middle speaker in my M240i (built in 2016, MY2017). I have the Harman Kardon system, and l do not feel that it is as good as other premium setups on similar cars. When I removed the cover, I saw 2 speakers (pictures attached) instead of one I usually see in topics like this. Is this because of H&K? The bigger speaker has 2 blue cables attached. So far, I disconnected only one, the one that is closer to the seats/middle of the cabin. At least the bigger speaker stopped working, I cannot say with the smaller one. On the videos I also saw only one blue cable. What is the purpose of the 2 cables? Is it because I have 2 speakers? Should I disconnect the other cable as well? |

The 2 speakers are known as "separates" as opposed to coaxials. The smaller speaker is a tweeter and is responsible for the high frequencies in the audio spectrum. The larger speaker is a mid-range speaker that plays mid frequencies down. Everyone typically disconnects both speakers, however, I personally feel the system sounds better with just the overly bright tweeter disconnected.

Yes, I only pulled the wire for the smaller speaker (tweeter). I left the larger (midrange) speaker connected. The smaller tweeter definitely needs to be disconnected. You can experiment with the larger midrange on and off to see what you personally prefer.

Hi Guys - New here!
I have a f87 OG M2 with a base audio system, which needs replacing. I have already purchased the A-pillar HK Tweeter surrounds to replace the stock blank plates, and decided on the Eton B100W with stock OEM amp. This thread has been really useful but before I face the dreaded brexit EU input fee's for the uk, I am confused if I need to also buy the B100XHP crossovers. Is anyone able to say definitively yay or nay on this one. Thanks for all the help. |

Interested in the specs on our speakers without first tearing apart my car. Depth of speakers (overall), and more, like are there adapters for both 3 to 4 mounting tabs and speaker connector identification for either making or finding "non splice" adapters. Because I have installed and dealth with a great many of speakers in my day and I can't believe the limited availability, by design, of the BMW format. 4" as opposed to 5", like that's just insane when 5" is so much more readily available. The rears not being cutout for any standard rear set up, or 5x8, 6x9, etc! And of course, the simpleton non adjustability in the HK system is abysmal and ridiculous considering the upgrade cost! It's nothing more than lipstick over the standard HiFi... Unfortunately!

It's true that the crossovers are not required but I just installed the crossovers - having previously done an installation without crossovers - and I can say that if you can deal with the added work of installing and finding a place for the crossovers, they make a big difference.

A pleasure.
As I posted on the M2 Comp list, Eton makes a very good center speaker. I tried it - with and without crossover - but went back to center speaker disconnect because, although the center Eton improved spatiality, it brought too much mid-range for my tastes. Tried fiddling with the HK tone, fader and balance control but the sound was still too fatiguing. The Eton center and the crossover are now on my work bench. |

I'd like to try and see how it sounds on my system. Although the center channel is significantly attenuated on the DSP setting, I'm hoping to see some improvement. |
